rudy strangling him on the sideline after some horrible call by the refs. i wanna say it was game 7 against the knicks b/c i thought i saw it during hakeem's espn classic day. as far as game time, i seem to have some vague memory of him pulling up from the top of the 3 point line and having a really high arching shot. but the rudy strangulation incident is my scottie brooks moment.
Bill Worrel was always talking about him coaching Joaquin in the USBL or some league like that. As far as I know, he still is coaching.
When I was about 13 I went to his basketball camp and when he was teaching all the kids how to shoot with good form, he nailed 26 jumpers in a row from around the top of the key area
Greatest? Can't think of one in particular, the guy was just a sparkplug. Most memorable? When he was released/traded from the Rocket's, and cried during the reporters questions afterward. I mean, I know it's a business, but I think Scotty TRULY thought of himself as a Rocket. Very touching at the time.
For me it was the weird looking shot off he made against the Knicks when we went 15-0. That shot kinda symbolized that it was OUR game.
Scotty's finest moment was when Rudy T. grabbed his jersey with both hands and gritted out of frustration with the refs.
I hope someone else remembers this more clearly than I, but the Seattle series in the 93 playoffs. I can't recall the exact sequence of events (bad call, tough shot, etc.), but something got Rudy T worked up on the sidelines. He was jumping around looking for something to kick/punch/throw to the ground, but the closest thing he could find was Brooks. Rudy grabbed Scottie by the warm-ups and shook him around a bit. Good laugh. (I hear Scottie is trying to lobby his way on to the ROX coaching staff)
I just loved to watch him on the sidelines. It didn't matter if he had gotten out of his warmups or not, he lived and died with every possession. He didn't care about stats, pt or anything other than winning. God bless him and that mentality. To give you an idea, my high school team had a Scotty Brooks award. This was not an official award, just one that the bench players came up with amongest ourselves. It went to the most animated player on the bench. Every year, it went to all of us. We were like the bloody Cameron Crazies on the bench. It was all because of Scotty Brooks. By the way, I live in Indiana. Brooks' sphere of influence stretches far beyond the Lone Star State.
