I'm not prepared to commit to having a funeral, but this one would be good: "Restless Farewell" by Bob Dylan Oh all the money that in my whole life I did spend, Be it mine right or wrongfully, I let it slip gladly to my friends To tie up the time most forcefully. But the bottles are done, We've killed each one And the table's full and overflowed. And the corner sign Says it's closing time, So I'll bid farewell and be down the road. Oh ev'ry girl that ever I've touched, I did not do it harmfully. And ev'ry girl that ever I've hurt, I did not do it knowin'ly. But to remain as friends You need the time to make amends and stay behind. And since my feet are now fast And point away from the past, I'll bid farewell and be down the line. Oh ev'ry foe that ever I faced, The cause was there before we came. And ev'ry cause that ever I fought, I fought it full without regret or shame. But the dark does die As the curtain is drawn and somebody's eyes Must meet the dawn. And if I see the day I'd only have to stay, So I'll bid farewell in the night and be gone. Oh, ev'ry thought that's strung a knot in my mind, I might go insane if it couldn't be sprung. But it's not to stand naked under unknowin' eyes, It's for myself and my friends my stories are sung. But the time ain't tall, If on time you depend and no word is possessed By no special friend. And though the line is cut, It ain't quite the end, I'll just bid farewell till we meet again. Oh a false clock tries to tick out my time To disgrace, distract, and bother me. And the dirt of gossip blows into my face, And the dust of rumors covers me. But if the arrow is straight And the point is slick, It can pierce through dust no matter how thick. So I'll make my stand And remain as I am And bid farewell and not give a damn.
My Dad was a huge fan of Randy Newman. AT his "funeral" (it was really more of a cocktail party), we had the pianist play "Short People" at the end. And whomever said "Knockin' On Heaven's Door", you've gotta go with the Warren Zevon version. It's incredible, plus halfway through when he yells "Open up! I'm comin'!" you can't help but bust out laughing.
Off the top of my head: Eric Clapton- Tears in Heaven Although I'd want my funeral to be small, and joyous. Maybe "ding dong the witch is dead" with altered lyrics. Cause I'm a guy...
Lateralus tool Black then white are all I see in my infancy. Red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me. Lets me see. As below, so above and beyond, I imagine Drawn beyond the lines of reason. Push the envelope. watch it bend. Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind. Withering my intuition, missing opportunities and I must Feed my will to feel my moment drawing way outside the lines. Black then white are all I see in my infancy. Red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me. Lets me see there is so much more and Beckons me to look thru to these infinite possibilities. As below, so above and beyond, I imagine Drawn outside the lines of reason. Push the envelope. watch it bend. Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind. Withering my intuition leaving opportunities behind. Feed my will to feel this moment urging me to cross the line. Reaching out to embrace the random. Reaching out to embrace whatever may come. I embrace my desire to I embrace my desire to Feel the rhythm, to feel connected enough to step aside and weep like a widow To feel inspired to fathom the power, to witness the beauty, To bathe in the fountain, To swing on the spiral To swing on the spiral To swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human. With my feet upon the ground I move myeslf between the sounds and open wide to Suck it in. I feel it move across my skin. I’m reaching up and reaching out. I’m reaching for the random or what ever will Bewilder me. What ever will bewilder me. And following our will and wind we may just go where no one’s been. We’ll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one’s been. Spiral out. keep going. Spiral out. keep going. Spiral out. keep going. Spiral out. keep going. Spiral out. keep going.
