In '98 I worked for Krogers as a shopping cart collector boy. $4.85/hr and only 8 hrs a week by law. I joined the Union.(Big Mistake) and after all the dues and everything my first paycheck was........ $0.35  WTF? I quit there on the spot and threw the check after I crumpled it up in the managers face. Eff' Krogers in the A's.

My first job was at finish line when I was 16.

I think I spent my first check on weed, beer, a pair of air max 95s, and a pair of oakleys.

Money well spent, imo. except for the shoes and sunglasses (would go cheaper now).

don't take life too seriously. there's a time for that. first paycheck is a celebration money - it's a symbol of success, freedom and gratitude.

The first paycheck is minimum wage for most people... it's more like a symbol of poverty, still being tied to your parents, and being pissed.

I blew my entire first paycheck on a Samsung 32inch hdtv for my room at the time, and an ounce of weed. i was 16 working at Academy in apparel. That tv still works really well despite it being an older hdtv model so money well spent lol

True, but my first real paycheck was a job after college. At that point in life, it's better to shun the consumerist urge to splurge and just be debt free.
Besides, I received a hefty signing bonus which justified paying off some of the student loans first.

Was he trying to prompt you to get a job or did he just flat out refuse to groom his kid?

I was in high school and only getting $10/week allowance; so after some Chips Ahoy!, Nacho Cheese Doritos and Barq's Root Beer (all verboten back then) it went to the lunch and call-a-cab-to-school-cuz-I-missed-the-bus fund.

Your only job was to collect carts? You weren't sacking also? Did you ever just sneak up behind people who were loading their groceries and start helping them to maximize your tips?

My first pay check was helping out a friend's dad at his office with some archiving. We were both about 12 and didn't make much. I cashed it and bought food I think. First paycheck for a real job I spent on rent.
