There is a restaurant called Los Ramirez in Clear Lake (in the old Oriental Gourmet building) that has very good red sauce. Personally, I also order their spicy sauce and mix a bit into the red sauce for heat.
absolutely!!! this is my favorite store-bought brand. love the salsa at La Hacienda on Memorial, just west of Dairy Ashford
My favorite store bought salsa is Mrs. Renfro's - Hot. This stuff tastes fantastic with just the right amount of kick! The only store I've been able to find that has the Hot flavor is H.E.B. . They also make a green salsa that is very good and you can find that at just about any grocery store. Hell on the Red is pretty good, but it's a bit too thin for me. I go to dip some and it just runs right off the chip.
I prefer fresh salsa anyway; either homemade or from the vegetable section of the store. Central Market has some great ones, expensive as they may be, for anyone who lives in a town with one. Many other stores have some sort of packaged fresh salsa that's much better than the stuff in bottles.
You know it must be impossible for a Spanish person to order salsa and not get seltzer. "I wanted salsa, not seltzer!!!"
How many tomatos? How much onion? jalapenos to taste? Aprox how many for med-hot? How much cilantro? Thanks.
You know, now that I think about it, that recipe is just pico de gallo thrown in a blender with a couple of spices thrown in. So, can you buy the fresh pico de gallo from the grocery store, do this, and get decent salsa?
Arriba is decent I suppose. But it's still no match for Spanish Flowers, damnit. Chepoltepec (or however you spell it) also has pretty good salsa.
