Steve Harris--Mr Soft. We wanted to take Joe Dumars, but he was taken with the 18th pick in the first round by Detroit so we settled for Harris with the 19th pick.

    My favorite's gotta be Chievous.

Dude started talking chit the second we drafted him. Some people you just don't mind seeing fail. He was a legend in his own mind(and nowhere else).

Least favorite is/was Steve "deer in the headlights" Harris.

ONE friggin' pick away from Joe Dumars. And Terry Porter was still on the board.

    Woulda', Coulda', Shoulda'.

Hey wasn't Chievous the one who would scream at the ball when shooting freethrows?

I remember watching him throw the ball up and start screaming at the ball, trying to alter the path to make it go in. :D

Hey! Matt wasn't drafted. Leave him alone.

trading Popeye Jones for Eric Riley was pretty dumb.

Everyone (including myself) complains about the Rockets passin up on Lewis - 3 times! - but he just really developed a lot and fast in Seattle. He was nothing like he is now... I'm not too sure if he woulda faired so good with us, just look at how EG and Nachbar have turned out so far, Rudy T and his staff didn't develop guys too well.

Does Ralph Sampson qualify? I know he got a couple of good years in with the Rockets before his injury, but talk about unfulfilled potential whether it be a fault of his own or not. THis guy was a legend in college and was supposed to be a key cog to a Rockets dynasty that never happened.

It's almost oxymoronic to label a second round pick a 'bust'. There are very few expectations for most players selected in the second round. If they make the team, great. If they produce like Cuttino then it is heralded, and rightly so, as a great pick. But for fans in Washington to say that Ron Grizzard was a 'bust' when taken with the 39th pick in last years draft would be insane.

Put another way -- to be a 'bust', there must inherently be expections attached to the pick. If it gets to the point that we are imputing expectations on players selected in the 30's, 40's, and 50's, then we have bigger problems than what to label them.

    Does Ralph Sampson qualify

NO NO NO !!!!!!! before his injuries he was a R.O.Y. and the team leader
he Ave. more then 20ppg his first two years in the league
if Bill Fitch would have kept him at center and move Akeem to power forward
Ralph's Career might have lasted a lot longer if his legs would have not gone out he would have become a hall of fame player
when he was healthily he was one of the best centers in the league he never was a bust watch the last 5 minutes of game 5
western conference finals Vs the Lakers in the 1986 playoffs you will see what kind of player he was

I can't remember whether we got more extra picks in the Langhi-for-Najera trade or the Griffin-for-Jefferson trade.

Both of those trades were straight up, I believe.

We gave up an additional second in the Langhi-Nájera trade. (And he was worth it, by God!) The Griffin trade didn't involve any future picks -- just Jefferson, Collins, and Armstrong.

That whole draft was a disaster. Didn't we also draft Bryce Drew and Venson Hamilton in that draft? Considering Houston had 3 mid first rounders, that was an absolutely pathetic draft.

That's my point though. The Rockets didn't get anywhere's near out of Sampson what they thought they were getting when they drafted him because his injury never allowed him to show us the extent of his greatness. A different kind of bust, but a bust indeed.
