Great stuff, and yes, those 3 MD tracks from Kind of Blue are considered more "standard" than Blue in Green. Recorder!!! I can whistle that solo in my sleep, just not a great horn player. This is the best advice you're gonna get. Just go buy it.
I have the iRealBook on my iPhone. It doesn't have the melodies, just the chords. It's great because you can transpose the songs to any key which comes in handy when working with singers who don't like to sing songs in the standard horn player keys. The old Real Books used to be illegal because they never obtained copyright licenses. They were written by some Berklee guys in the 70s. Buying a Real Book was like buying weed. You'd hear of a store that sells them and you'd go and say "Hey man, I hear you have some 'books' for sale" and they'd take you in a back room and sell you one and you'd walk out with the book hidden in a brown paper bag. But the Hal Leonard Real Book and The New Real Book published by Sher are 100% legit though I still find errors in them which is annoying. One of the best pieces of advice I got was to buy a Real Book in C and learn how to transpose at sight, notes and changes. That skill has come in really handy. You don't know how many times I go to a gig and have to read a chart in a different key than it's written.
I heard that story when I was at school there. Funny stuff. The auto-transpose feature on the app sounds
