More like a one sided ass kicking than a rivalry. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/lz2SHUmiFp4&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lz2SHUmiFp4&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
That should be a pretty good game since the Beavers this year are looking like legitimate Pac-10 contenders than spoilers. I've always liked the Ducks but this must might be the Beavers year. On the subject of beaver... heh heh When did your cheerleaders get so hot and start dressing like NFL cheerleaders? <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/iyvue7mKv48&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/iyvue7mKv48&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> What happened to all the granola chicks in Oregon?
The Auburn - Bama rivalry is huge but I think in recent times in terms of bowl and championship implications the Ohio - Michigan rivalry has been bigger until this year of course. For UT is OU the bigger rival or ATM? Growing up it always seemed like ATM was bigger but it seems like in the last ten years at has been OU since both teams have had great records coming in.
Texas has always cared more about Oklahoma. For aTm, Texas is their biggest game. For Texas, OK is their biggest game. It used to be that for OK, their biggest game was Nebraska. These days, Texas and OK both consider the annual game in Dallas to be THE game of the regular season.
See, this is what I missed out on going to a small school. I went to Hardin-Simmons in Abilene. Our big rival was Howard Payne. I didn't care a damn about it. I was born and raised in Houston. Growing up, I was (and still am) a Longhorn fan. But I was more a fan of the school than a fan of its teams, which isn't to say that I'm not a fan of its teams. I wasn't even aware that UT and OU had a rivalry until (I'm embarrassed to say) I was in my 20's. I always thought UT/A&M was it. Then I learned while it's an important rivalry, UT cares about OU far more than they care about A&M, while A&M cares only about UT. Admittedly I just never cared enough to pay attention and I've always had a remarkable ability to tune out things I don't care about, which I guess is how I made it so long without really being cognizant of UT/OU. Somehow....I just never cared about football. I barely care now. I try to make myself, I really do. I went to a military school in San Marcos for high school and spent a LOT of time in Austin. Austin was quite literally a second home for me, and thus has a special place in my heart, which of course only strengthened the love I had for UT. Now I'm an OU student who still cheered for UT this year, though I felt bad in doing so. Now I'm proud that we've passed UT in the standings after beating the Red Raiders like the red-headed Texas step-school that they are and hope we (OU) continue to do well.... Christ....I was raised to cheer for Texas first, no matter the sport or circumstance. Period. I've always done that (except for any Dallas team....can't bring myself to cheer for any of them. My dad wouldn't like it, but he'd just have to deal). Now I'm a mess of torn confusion. Did any of the above make any sense? I can't wait to come home for Thanksgiving so I can watch the Rockets with Rockets fans. That obsession makes perfect sense to me. Edit: Okay, this sheds some light. If the UT/OK wasn't in the early-mid '90's what it is today, then that explains how someone like me could have missed it.
I'm not sure who Techs rival is. We get beat by UT every year not quite on ther level. And we beat aTm nearly every year so they're really not on are level. Maybe aTm once they get back to being half respectable.
Texas-OK has always been big, but until the formation of the Big XII in 1996, it didn't factor much into conference play (since Texas was in the SWC and OK was in the Big 8). Also, 91-94 was a pretty bad stretch for Texas. They were pretty irrelevant.
Georgia Tech / UGA how bout them dawgs? piss on em!! and of course UT needs to wipe the floor with A&M to impress the voters..
It's like this: --OU is to UT what HPU is to HSU. --McM is to HSU what A&M is to UT. However, my freshman year (94-95) an HSU kid got mugged and shot by a McM kid, so it kind of heated up a bit, which is too say that one school prayed sternly at the other school.
You've been to OSU a couple of times and you read message boards? You don't know what you're talking about... OU's biggest rivalry is against Texas. I've lived in Oklahoma City for 16 years and have gone to OU for school for the past 4 years. There is a reason our fans are throwing the upside down horns when we are playing completely random teams. OU views OSU as a pure annoyance b/c anytime OSU beats OU, we hear about it from OSU fans for 10 years (the series record is 78-16-7). OSU's biggest rivalry is definitely OU, but for OU it doesn't compare to the Red River Shootout, the whole school doesn't go to Stillwater for the game, we don't cancel class the Friday before, we don't have our wins against OSU painted on our sidewalks, all of those things happen for Texas... which is up there with (although probably behind) the Iron Bowl and Ohio State Michigan. Go to the Texas State fair one year and you would understand
Gotta vouch for this....I've never seen so much anti-UT-anything ever in my life as I have up here. And I dated an Aggie, so I spent plenty of time in College Station....and their entire fight song is devoted to beating UT.
Second this. Auburn-Alabama is nuts. My wife's grandfather damn near through my brother in law out of house when he casually mentioned that he was "thinking about rooting for Alabama" in a completely unrelated game. No amount of "it's because Alabama is SEC" calmed the old man down - he was pissed off the rest of the night. Unreal.
Took the words out of my mouth! You have tickets to the NC game? I do. Now I just have to pray we take down FSU and Bama.
