From the Chron right after the Sampson trade: Same article: http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/a...sampson-tells-his-side-of-being-a-rocket.html SI after the trade: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1066948/1/index.htm So, Olajuwon played center from the time he entered the NBA until Sampson was traded. He must have had these dominant seasons at PF after the trade. Basketball Reference lists Dream as the only center on the roster for 1987-88, the year of the trade, even though Joe Barry Carroll came over in the Sampson trade. That's because when they played together, Dream played center. I guess in 1988-9 Dream played PF while the center position was manned capably by the duo of Tim McCormick and Chuck Nevitt. Oh, that's not quite right because there was a starting PF on that team named Otis Thorpe so Dream must have still been looking for that dominating season at the PF position. The fact is he never played PF. He did guard the other team's best low post scorer, particularly in the 4th, and that was sometimes a PF (Kemp, Karla, etc.), but he himself was never a PF. Ever. If you insist on calling him one and suggesting he had dominating seasons at PF the burden is on you to prove it. Simply saying it doesn't make it so.
Since it has been a few days and none of the "Hakeem is a PF" types have responded, I consider the matter closed. Dream was and always will be a center. <a href="http://s304.photobucket.com/albums/nn200/nbacardDOTnet/zz%20NBA%20Photo%20Gallery/Hakeem%20Olajuwon/VS/Abdul-Jabbar/?action=view&current=a6b748e0.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn200/nbacardDOTnet/zz%20NBA%20Photo%20Gallery/Hakeem%20Olajuwon/VS/Abdul-Jabbar/a6b748e0.jpg" border="0" alt="Hakeem Olajuwon VS Kareem Abdul-Jabbar"></a>
C- Wilt Chamberlain PF - Hakeem Olajuwon SF - Michael Jordan SG - Oscar Robertson PG - Magic Johnson Dream and MJ would have no problem playing SF and PF.
You guys need to consider team chemistry! Here is mine: C = Hakeem Olajuwan PF = Karl Malone SF = Reggie Miller SG = Michael Jordan PG = John Stockton JS & KM played with each other so they fit well. MJ and RM are good friends... and Hakeem is one who gets along with everybody and can sit back and just flat rebound & block shots.... Gentlemen this is your complete team!!!!
PG - Oscar Robertson SG - Iverson (talent at all the other positions, so he doesn't have to lead) SF - Young Barkley (talent at all the other positions, so he doesn't have to lead) PF - Russell C - Abdul-Jabbar
