There were apparently several arrests made for arson with these fires -- one man was shot and killed actually.
say a neighbors kid breaks your windows while playing baseball in the street. it was an accident but the kid must pay to have the windows fixed. its obvious that the kid or his parents will not be able to repay all the people who lost their homes/possesions. but the kid must have some sort of punishment. mow lawns for all of so cal until the kid is 65.
Some folks may be able to -- and try to -- sue the family for the damage caused, much like you could sue someone for breaking your window. You don't arrest kids for accidentally breaking windows while playing baseball. I don't think prosecuting child or parents is even a possibility.
i didnt say the kid should be arrested. but the kid should be punished. make the kid mow lawns until hes 65, pick up trash along highways, repaint buildings w/ graffiti...
That would be over 15,000 people evacuated, plus an untold number of people affected by closings of businesses, roads, etc. Conservatively, say 25,000. Then you have the firefighting resources that were on this fire that could have been on others, and soon you're into the millions. On the low end, the kid would have to work for weeks at a time to even come close to the lower number, even if he just spent 1 minute with each person. Not to mention the logistics.
yeah its going to take a long time but i dont think he nor his parents are going to be paying for damages done, resources used to fight the fire and house people, wages lost..... a personal appology is the least this kid can do for all those effected.
Well, not here: but in California, Southern California, or in heavily wooded areas in that part of the state. We've banned box cutters in airports, have we not?
