It may not be tragic to you, but I wish you had been around to experience some of the great criticism, and discussions that were the rule and not the exception around here. These boards were great. When the whole Hakeem to Toronto thing went down, I argued non-stop with people about it. Plenty of people had well thought out arguments to make on both sides.

People talked about games, actualy discussion of strategy, and offered suggestions on what could be done to help the team.

Now it seems that everything little thing that goes wrong is worthy of a trade. The rule of the day seems to be for fans to want to throw out the baby with the bath water.

I understand if you never got a chance to partake in a lot of those great discussions why you might not see the tragedy of seeing those threads be the exception instead of the rule. I honestly wish you had been around then, because it was enlightening and knowledgable debate going on. I'm sure you would have found plenty to like about it.

That being said there are some fantastic posts that still occur. I have seen people crunch numbers way beyond the call of duty to help foster conversation here. It is just sad that that kind of thing is so rare now.

Criticizing coaches is fine. That is especially fine when you talk about specifics of plan A and plan B and articulate thoughts on the matter.

But when it is just so knee jerk and silly as to blame JVG for Bonzi's refusal to get in shape and that it is Jeff who should suffer and leave because of that situation, then the criticism doesn't have any validity.

Well thought out criticism is always a great place for starting discussion. knee jerk - band wagon hate, just gets tired really quickly.

I am not pointing any fingers at you, just commenting on this particular post of yours, and using to address a larger more general issue.

I've noticed that when people try to discuss strategy and ways to help the team there is often a response like "How dare you try to think you're a coach. You don't know more about basketball than JVG and you're just hating on JVG."

Every suggestion or discussion of how different plays could be run or which players should be played isn't hate on JVG. Yet many posters treat any counter discussion of how things could be done differently as hate on JVG or hate on the Rockets. There's certainly a lot of JVG hate but OTOH there is a lot of "with us or against us" attitude too.

Agreed. I think perhaps hyper-attacking JVG has brought about hyper-defense of JVG, and vice-versa.

For the record I love it when people often their opinions on actual substantive basketball matters even when I disagree with them. It makes the discussion feel worthwhile.

I could not be happier with the start of this season. I support this team, and this coach because he coaches this team. I have pointed out in the past that I did not like players we signed like Strickland, Charlie Ward, trading Mo Taylor for less than nothing, etc. As has been repeated often - these signings are on CD - not Van Gundy.

Many posters here will dredge up past bad deals the Rockets made and villify Rudy here. The Taylor contract cost, drafting Eddie Griffin, not signing Rashard, not drafting Richard Jefferson, being too much a players coach. I have defended Rudy here and been called an apologist. OK. I respect wjhat Rudy did here winning and IMO Rudy was a victim of the "win now" philosophy the owner pushed - leding ot the Barkley trade, signing Pippin, and relying on Hakeem well past his prime.- Please do not mistake this for disprespect for Hakeem - it is not.

I have defended Rudy. I have criticized Van Gundy in the past. I was called an "antifan"for being critical of Van Gundy....I consider myself a moderate and agree more with Sishir Cahng and Dadakota than EDC.

    Talk about polarizing.

I am happy with the team we have - we have not played our best basketball yet. I support this team and this coach.....

    Excellent points.

What I have seen a growth of does not lead to substantive discussion. Short posts that claim 'so-and-so sucks'. Everyone on this team has strengths and weaknesses, but when all a poster does is to just claim someone 'sucks' w/o any substantive discussion and w/o ever recognizing the strengths, I add them to my ignore.

I can't believe that there is an actual DISCUSSION thread developing here.

And not one point from "you know who" in any of these comments...OH! The team is winning. Probably counting down the hours til the next Rocktets loss for the usual "I told you so" rant.

You're going to have to find someone to take all his fouls for you if you want to see him in the game the whole time. LOL
