I'm 26, but I think I've had my fair share ... I can always be thankful that I have not had anything that is too immediately life threatening and MadMax's story is a good reminder of that ... 1983 - Broken leg 1995 - Sinus Surgery, Adenoids Out 1997 - Fundoplication (Surgery on upper valve of stomach) & Sinus Surgery at same time [To Come] October 2006 - Normal Sinus Surgery again Late 2006/Early 2007 - Potential surgery on sinus where they will cut through the front of my skull to access the frontal sinus
I had a massive tumor in my left ear when I was in fifth grade. Took a five and a half hour surgery to remove it. It almost led to brain damage and/or meningitis. It felt like someone was beating me in the head with a hammer. I also saw many fluids leakin from my head that I never wish to see again (blood, pus, green ear wax, etc.). Now, I have about 50% hearing loss in my left ear. I've broken just about every one of my fingers; I broke my second toe on my left foot apparently pretty severely and never knew, because now the toenail drags the ground, and my toe is curled like a hook; I had a greenstick fracture of my ulna that almost resulted in another greenstick fracture in my radius (don't play football on a trampoline, lol). When I was a kid, I ran onto our street barefooted to fetch a wiffle ball. What I didn't know is that the tar they were paving the street with was HOT. I've also had tons of contusions. One bad one was to the hand. The one that was the worst, and was surprisingly one of the most painful things I've had in my life was the deep pelvic contusion I had in July. I was catching in our softball league and got in a collision at home plate with a baseball coach at a local high school. He slid, I tried to block the plate, and got kneed right in the pubic bone about 2 inches above my junk. Since it was slow pitch softball, I wasn't wearing a cup (not that it would have helped). I ended up barely being able to walk (I don't even know how I could walk, to be honest). What is more amazing is that I finished the game (this happened in the top of the first), went four for four with a triple, two doubles, a single, and 6 rbis. Then, I went home, dsicovered that I could barely walk after the adrenaline wore off, showered and went to the ER. I had to get a shot for pain, which didn't help at all, and they prescribed my Darvacet. I still have a 2 inch hematoma (hardened, raised bruise) that probably won't ever go away. And it is still very painful in that area...especially when something touches it.
I've also been walking around/playing sports on a torn meniscus that I tore about 3 to 4 years ago. I may have surgery on it this spring.
