That call could go either way. No big deal. What amazes me is the "kobe luvers" would actually think that is "the greatest dunk." And the so-called "facial" is overblown. I agree with those who say that a player instinctively tries to take a charge or block a shot is always better than a player ducks out of the way for fear of embarrassment.
i can't make a New Thread for this, otherwise I would. LeBron traveled on that game-winning lay-up last night. there, i said it. he took an extra step after picking up his pivot foot. even if that doesn't sound like traveling - watch it, and you'll agree. [check the video highlights on the recap page.] and please, can someone make this into a new thread?
This is a good observation I'm not a Lakers fan at all, but it's funny to see people micro-analyze this play by Kobe, but give other stars a free pass...I'm not saying you have to idolize Kobe, but give the guy credit when credit is due and dont be a hater
Block is called when the player is in "upward shooting motion", not neccesarily in the air. Kobe has been in upward shooting motion once his 2nd step is on the floor.
omg i thought i was the only one who saw that. i do high school bball reffing..and even i could have called that.
Easy, you are the first person to refer to it in any way as 'the greatest dunk'. No one has said that.
well the following was written a day ago and isn't anything new, as many have made the same observation. but for whatever it's worth, i'll just post it here. if you knew the song "road of many signs", it'll give you a knowing smile while reading this. have fun. by the way, it's half time of the 3rd game now with the scores tied at 41, despite the little Canadian doing it again with 16 pts, 4 dimes, 0 TO. It seems that the rest of the Suns haven't found their souls yet, shooting a criminal below 30%. Shame shame. ********************* Kobe, Nash and the road of many signs ::About Kobe:: sister check the vibration, purple rendition Isn’t Kobe his own biggest enemy? He’s playing as close to the rarefied MJ echelon as he’s ever been in these 3 games against the Suns, with them taking a 2:1 lead in the series and all the momentum, or the Force, on their side. However, it’s exactly his controlled play so far that explained why he’s not as deserving the MVP as Nash or James. If the victories or even dominance over the Suns in this series is of any indication, the Lakers might have won several more games if Kobe had played the same unselfish way throughout the whole season. Then he may have won the MVP hands down. Let’s face it: Kobe averaged 40+ pts against the Suns in the regular season, and they lost 3 of 4. But now he’s getting the job done, finally. If they stomp over the Suns and go on to beat the Clips and reach the conference finals, that’d be really sth to write home about. ::About Nash:: Life is a road of many signs, with many turns many stops many lines Some Kobe lovers now are saying Kobe is proving he’s more worthy of the MVP trophy by kicking the Suns’ collective behind, esp with that emphatic dunk over Nash that also drew a blocking foul in game 2. Let’s not get carried away just yet, boyz and girlz. For starters, that dunk could be called an offensive foul if you review the replay; at best it should be a non-call. For the main course, how about the two MVP candidates’ stats so far in the 3 games played: HTML: ppg fg% (3pt% ft%) asp rpg spg TO Kobe 22.7 40% (20% 80%) 5.7 7.0 1.7 11 Nash 22.0 49% (39% 94%) 10.0 5.3 0.7 12 Really, Kobe’s only advantage here is rpg, by a small margin. Duh, he’s 4″ taller, so you’d figure he should get more rebounds anyway. On the other hand, Nash handles the ball for Phx 90% of the time, and it’s simply remarkable that this guy just refuses to let the Suns fade away in what could have been some soul shaking routs. Because of him, they could hang in the game but just came short in both game 2 and 3 (losing by 6 pts and 7 pts, respectively). By the way, Nash’s stats in the playoffs are much better than his regular season averages, which is the sign of a great player, as compared to those choking masters including Shawn the Broken Matrix Marion. If you want to blame the losses on the little Canadian, how about looking at the other guys on the team who kept missing wide open shots. If anything, their struggles in the playoffs so far could only make their regular season success more attributable to the guy with the ball on his hands 90% of the time. If that’s not a MVP for you, you don’t understand basketball. period. Let’s see how the Suns can get their confidence and freewheeling style back. It’s 1:2 now, but there’s still hope.
Nash vs. Kobe in the clutch: Nash = 2 turnovers Kobe = Tying basket, Game winner Draw your own conclusions.
Foul or Charge, it's clear that these sequence of events are consistent with Bryant's habitual actions as a sexual deviant both on and off the court. Case in point Conehead Cassell agrees.
