I like when people talk shiet to me playing ball. I play my best when I am angry. Any self doubt I have is gone when somebody, for instance, calls my shot off before or as I'm shoting. You can bet on a perfect release with a hard follow through the rest of the game. I also actually play defense and try to grab rebounds instead of trying to get an outlet pass when people disrespect my game. Off shot?? Off shot?? Biatch that's buckets. You're gonna block my shot next time I have the ball? You're gonna have to actually stay with me next time to block my shot. I'm getting in the zone just thinking about similar scenarios. P.S. I never initiate trash talking, it probably stems from their visual stereo-typical disrespect as I am a 5'8" white guy.
Its only psychological if the guy getting trash talked is insecure with himself. Most of the people I've played with/against that trash talk and mean it (not the jokers) suck at ball. I could care less if some random guy thinks I suck, or calls my mom names. Now guys who play dirty (think Bruce Bowen dirty), I have a problem with. Its hard for me to intentionally break the rules so I guess I'm not really an enforcer type player.
