I'd say that this is the biggest problem with Sandler's 'comedies' lately. They have a plot, morals and the whole schebang. I want to laugh, but get sucked into some big moral tale.
That's exactly what I was thinking. I live in an area where a majority of the people are white, and when I saw the movie I felt they missed some subtle jokes (b/c I was pretty much the only one laughing at some). I don't think they got some of the references. Like how some foreign countries still call it "disco" or the fact that they're behind on the pop culture here that they listen to 80's songs or have old haircuts. The Mariah shirts are a parody of the way some foreign people wear shirts that don't make sense.
I honestly tried to like the movie and even went in thinking "How bad could it be? Its Sandler and I love John Turturro" and I was kind of thinking it wasn't too bad at all and then he gets to New York and it just was all down the ****hill from there. Not even a Thomas Lennon cameo could make me smile. Those Reno 911 boys sure haven't had any luck lately (The movie kind of sucked and Balls of Fury was a disaster)
From the trailer, it looked shamelessly silly and absolutely hilarious to me. Did anyone like the trailer but hate the movie?
Yeah I thought it was really well done, the hummus, hacky sack, and beach paddle ball, weird soda, etc.
That's like every other movie. I seriously laughed my ass off when my old roommate saw the Epic Movie trailer and was talking on the phone and said "Oh my god this Epic Movie is going to be so awesome I can't wait to see it." That defines stupid people.
There were some good parts like putting hummus on everything (favorite hummus scene was the one where he put it on his toothbrush to brush his teeth), 'fizzly bubbly', and his battle with the phantom...otherwise the movie really sucked. Geriatic sex was funny for the first 5 minutes. Then it just became disturbing. The last hour of the movie was a real bore, as Sandler tries to inject some 'learning' into the story and it had a godawful Mariah cameo.
Sadler has reached a new low. He needs to go back to doing sports comedies because lately his movies have sucked.
there was definitely times i was cringing in my seat, but if you take it for what its worth its just a stupid funny movie that i wouldn't buy but watch on tv
I CANNOT BELIEVE this movie has a 5.9 on imdb. For the record, I'm not a movie snob. But that was pure trash. I mean, COME ON. The hummus? Sex in the hair salon? The GAWD AWFUL attempts at middle eastern accents? Ugh. It's just sickening to think that absolute garbage is being made when there are much more deserving, more well-written screenplays out there.
Okay. I'll definitely go see this movie now. It looks like the people who hated it also hated other Sandlar movies like Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore. Off to see the Zohan today!
It reminded me of an improvisational play put on by junior high theater students, but eh, to each their own. "Alright guys! Your words are hummus, salon, and Mariah Carey, and your place is the Middle East. Now go!!!"
Those IDIOTS!!!! How can they con people who ae NOT movie SNOBs into seeing this garbage?!?!?! They should be put in jail, those bastards!!!! C'mon. It's a comedy. It's Adam Sandler + [a little bit of ] Rob Schneider. You expected an OSCAR performance? You knew what you were getting INTO. It's a DUMB comedy and let it be a DUMB comedy... don't expect a great script with zany characters making Golden Globe-worthy performances... that's like expecting the Celtics to win it all just 'cuz they got Kevin Garnett and... oh... uh-oh... United Statesians love this *****.
Yeah this movie was pretty dumb, all the jokes in it were worn out in the movie. First like 30 minutes were okay then it went downhill with the repeated jokes they just became stupider and stupider. Sucks that I chose to watch this instead of Kung Fu Panda. :\
