The GOP has very far to go to encroach on that territory. As long as GOP leadership is appointing people like Schlozman to head up our nations top CIVIL RIGHTS post, there is no danger of Republicans encroaching on anything. http://www.rawstory.com/news/2008/DOJ_Civil_Rights_lawyer_sent_racist_0114.html This was who was tapped to be Bush's top guy for Civil Rights. When the GOP is putting racist SOB's like that in positions for civil rights, it shows very clearly what their priorities are. Until they start making some significant changes they aren't going swing many voters.
LOL! Do I know you? You certainly don't know me. It seems that you want all people to know their place in your society, and their place is defined by skin color. You started this thread to pick a fight, as evidenced by the way you attacked me the minute I disagreed with your opinion. I think I will bow out now.
Exactly how is the GOP making a real effort to reach out to minorities? Please fill me in on what they are doing.
Check the track record -- there have been many minorities in leadership positions over the past 8 years. The proof is in the pudding. Meanwhile, the libs just take minorities for granted.
I didn't start it to pick a fight actually; I started it to share a laugh. Sorry you felt I attacked you. I didn't mean to do that. I was just having a little fun.
Not to derail but has anyone seen the documentary running on HBO right now (In Demand) <i> Right America: Feeling Wronged</i>? Watched it last night and all I'll say is...Man! I'm glad I don't live in that America! http://www.hbo.com/docs/programs/rightamerica/index.html
The record is clear. It has been pointed out who was put in the Justice department as the head of civil rights. The Republicans' dedication to the issue has been noted.
I saw some of that. And that is certainly disappointing. But there really are idiots and ignorant people everywhere in this country (and the world) of all different political ideologies. I'm not sure what the point of that documentary was except to make it clear that the group included people from the south that didn't vote for Obama.
I bet Steele resigns for family reasons within the year... he's making a clown of himself and there will be pushback. We have Obama trying his best to be inclusive and looking for bipartisan solutions and then we have Steele threatening to mount challenges against Republicans who stray from the party line and specifically targeting Specter because of his stimulus vote. We have a black President talking to the country about issues of great import... and doing it in a way that respects the intelligence of all Americans... and we have Steele rapping old school to a convention of wackos more resembling a cult than a national political party.
You mean that putting a tiny number of minorities in leadership positions equates to "making a real effort to reach out to minorities" as per stanleykurtz's post? The huge disconnect from reality is just amazing. Because of your mentality, minorities will likely continue to shun the GOP. Did you watch their convention last year? So, back to the question. Anyone care to offer a legit answer?
Along with Bobby Jindal, Mchael "Hip Hop" Steele is Bringin' it... <style type='text/css'>.cc_box a:hover .cc_home{background:url('http://www.comedycentral.com/comedycentral/video/assets/syndicated-logo-over.png') !important;}.cc_links a{color:#b9b9b9;text-decoration:none;}.cc_show a{color:#707070;text-decoration:none;}.cc_title a{color:#868686;text-decoration:none;}.cc_links a:hover{color:#67bee2;text-decoration:underline;}</style><div class='cc_box' style='position:relative'><a href='http://www.comedycentral.com' target='_blank' style='display:inline; float:left; width:60px; height:31px;'><div class='cc_home' style='float:left; border:solid 1px #cfcfcf; border-width:1px 0px 0px 1px; width:60px; height:31px; background:url("http://www.comedycentral.com/comedycentral/video/assets/syndicated-logo-out.png");'></div></a><div style='font:bold 10px Arial,Helvetica,Verdana,sans-serif; float:left; width:299px; height:31px; border:solid 1px #cfcfcf; border-width:1px 1px 0px 0px; overflow:hidden; color:#707070;'><div class='cc_show' style='position:relative; background-color:#e5e5e5;padding-left:3px; height:14px; padding-top:2px; overflow:hidden;'><a href='http://www.thedailyshow.com/' target='_blank'>The Daily Show With Jon Stewart</a><span style='position:absolute; top:2px; right:3px;'>M - Th 11p / 10c</span></div><div class='cc_title' style='font-size:11px; color:#868686; background-color:#f5f5f5; padding:3px; padding-top:1px; line-height:14px; height:21px; overflow:hidden;'><a href='http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?videoId=219496&title=a-new-republican-party' target='_blank'>A New Republican Party</a></div></div><embed style='float:left; clear:left;' src='http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:cms:item:comedycentral.com:219496' width='360' height='301' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' wmode='window' allowFullscreen='true' allowscriptaccess='always' allownetworking='all' flashvars='autoPlay=false' bgcolor='#000000'></embed><div class='cc_links' style='float:left; clear:left; width:358px; border:solid 1px #cfcfcf; border-top:0px; font:10px Arial,Helvetica,Verdana,sans-serif; color:#b9b9b9; background-color:#f5f5f5;'><div style='width:177px; float:left; padding-left:3px;'><a target='_blank' href='http://www.thedailyshow.com/full-episodes/index.jhtml'>Daily Show Full Episodes</a><br /><a target='_blank' href='http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/important_things/index.jhtml'>Important Things With Demetri Martin</a></div><div style='width:177px; float:left;'><a target='_blank' href='http://www.indecisionforever.com'>Political Humor</a><br /><a target='_blank' href='http://www.jokes.com'>Joke of the Day</a></div><div style='clear:both'></div></div><div style='clear:both'></div></div>
It keeps getting better and better- Steele offers Jindal 'slum love' ABC RADIO THE CURTIS SLIWA SHOW 2/25/09 INTERVIEW WITH RNC CHAIRMAN MICHAEL STEELE In this interview, Michael Steele discussed his new "hip-hop strategy" for the Republican party. On Bobby Jindal's Republican response to President Obama's speech: Curtis Sliwa: Now, using a little bit of that street terminology, are you giving him any Slum love, Michael? Michael Steele: (laughter) Curtis Sliwa: Because he is -- when guys look at him and young women look at him -- they say oh, that's the slumdog millionaire, governor. So, give me some slum love. Michael Steele: I love it. (inaudible)...some slum love out to my buddy, gov. Bobby Jindal is doing a friggin' awesome job in his state. He's really turned around on some core principles -- like hey, government ought not be corrupt. The good stuff...the easy stuff. On President Obama's stimulus package Curtis Sliwa: When you used the hip-hop vernacular, man, Barack Obama has bling bling in this stimulus package, you got people's attention. Michael Steele: Absolutely. There's a lot of bling bling -- the bling bling's got bling bling in this package. That's how bad it is. On his "hip-hop" strategy Curtis Sliwa: You ain't ever gonna get Mitt Romney in a room with Ludacris high fiving over the RNC. Michael Steele: Watch him, watch me. Look, I'll never forget when I got Russell Simmons and former chairman Ed Gillespie in the same room in 2004. It can happen and it will happen. This party has got to take it's head out of it's you know what and recognize that America doesn't look like America in 1952. That America now is something very different, very beautiful -- that has a lot of strips and strains to it. But, it's real and we've got to get in the real. Curtis Sliwa: I believe Michael Steele you gotta multitask because it's a lot of money. So, what I would do is -- because he comes from Chi-town, Chicago which is now the murder capital of America, unfortunately -- the homicide capital. But, where we're talking to - Baltimore, DC -- they've had enormous problems. I would be handing out bullet proof body condoms so that a person could actually slip into this bullet proof body condom -- don't have to worry about STDs, drive-by's bullets lead poisoning. Michael Steele: It bounces right off of them -- they keep on going. On taxes Curtis Sliwa: It was interesting -- this was before he went off the hook -- DMX -- he was on the Fly Girls show on BET -- and he gets up and he says you will not believe how much blankety-blank money George W. Bush took out of my check -- 50 percent. And I'm saying to myself hey man, wake up. When Barack Obama kicks out the Bush tax cuts in 2010, it's going to be a lot more than that. Michael Steele: Oh hell, DMX hasn't seen anything yet. He should understand -- it ain't George Bush who's taking it out of his paycheck. George Bush, in fact, tried to keep as much of it in there as possible. On Meghan McCain (John McCain's daughter) saying Michael Steele's "hip-hop" strategy won't work Michael Steele: I would think that she would understand what i meant when i used the term hip-hop. I wasn't talking literally the music industry -- Ludacris or Snoop Dog becoming Republicans. Look -- I'm not stupid I was born in DC on 8th Street. I know what's up. I know what time it is. I used to hang out in Brooklyn and in the Bronx as a teenager. I know what the real world is like. Curtis Sliwa: I gotta call for a little Jay-Z play to give you a little hand here -- so that you can go out with that (Jay-Z music playing). Michael Steele: There you go, playa. http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0209/Steele_offers_Jindal_slum_love.html
