That speech was perfectly fine. The fact people think its inappropriate shows how pussified America has bcome
I saw this on YouTube; he does eventually same something like that. At one point he says ~"Even if you are one in a Million, that means there are 7,000 of you out there in the world."
It's weird how young people and teenagers in each passing generation are considered lazy, apathetic, entitled, weak, deviant, weird, and amoral deliquents. YET ... most of the major problems in each passing generation is typically caused by ...I don't know middle aged adults in charge. It's kind of ironic.
Didn't watch... but I never went to my HS graduation because it wasn't special. I woke up next to some chubby blonde. Also, I didn't go to college graduation. Had better things to do than stand around and walk on stage - love me, love me, looook at meeee, love me - just like Jerry Seinfeld. That's all it is. Parade around like a show horse. SEC.
Um... because those lazy, apathetic, entitled, weak, deviant, weird, and amoral delinquents grow up to be lazy, apathetic, entitled, weak, deviant, weird, and amoral middle aged adults who are in charge. Is it that hard to understand? That's why there's a downward trend.
This is plain silly. This would make sense ONLY if teenagers were ever actually in charge of something. And thank God they are not.
No, I just find the irony in mediocre adults/people criticizing mediocre children. That's all I was trying to say. Moreover, teenagers are generally not responsible for most (current) problems in the world and never have been (never will be). My biggest problem is people tend to want throw blame of the decay of society on one generation and absolve another one. When it's a matter that's progressed over centuries. There's no such thing as the good ole days.
No one is absolving anyone of anything. Obviously they're not responsible for the problems we have today. But we can see the downward trend of our country and we fear for their future. So if we don't plant the good seeds now, how can we look forward to that brighter future?
How can you plant a good seeds, when they are very few good left to plant? A downward trend ... when did downward trends start in this country? Some people might say the last 20 or 30 years, others might sense the foundation of the Constitution. From a million different people, there could be a million different answers. It's perspective game. Though, I will say that most societies experience decay at some point. It's all too easy to put society's transgressions and shortcomings on youth, but I don't see society being much better or worse in any decade over the last 100 years or so. Again, it's about the p For the speech, itself ... I really did not see the harm in it, but I don't really see why it's so important to say "you are special" vs. "you are not special." Again, it's perspective thing and people seem to take it differently. On one hand, someone calling you special might make you work harder and feel better about yourself. On the other hand, you sort of remain realistic about your outlook in life, work hard for maybe wealthy or mediocre life. I think it's about nothing ... it's just phrase or another method of motivation.
Watching interviews today where he had to defend what he said, he explained that saying 'You are not special' was basically to get their attention so they would hear what he was really trying to say. Your life is just starting. You have to go out and pursue it. Don't look for accolades but revel in the actual achievements. Make this world a better place not only for you but for everyone.
Again, nothing wrong with that. Never said it was. But, you aren't really saying anything different from "You are special vs. you are not special." It's completely based on perspective.
if we run out of money, it doesn't matter what the law says. the social security act creates a mechanism to manage an entitlement program. social security is absolutely an entitlement program. there was an entire generation initially that never paid in one dime, and still received benefits. having said all that...i'm good with SS. i am not suggesting we scrap it, because i don't believe there's inherently anything wrong with entitlement programs...I think they're necessary and humane, frankly.
No time to watch but if this is a high school graduation then i agree. They make it so easy to graduate high school that unless you have excruciating circumstances, teen pregnancy, drug addiction, have to raise your younger brothers, no parents, have a learning disability etc, its not special. HS graduation should be implied. Remind me of when Obama said something about parents helping their children or not helping their children in school. Angered a ton of people. well does it anger a ton of people that we have to offshore a lot of work or have to import a lot of smart minds into this country because the educational system is just not cutting it compared to other countries?
