Small sample size I get it. From what we saw last night, you’d still take him over Ortiz? I would

If Yordan stays healthy he will absolutely be a better than Ortiz. Yordan's career OPS+ is 163 right now, and he's just entering his prime. Ortiz only had 2 full seasons in his entire career better than that. Yordan can also be put in the field without killing the team.

Only 4 players since WW2 have a higher career OPS plus than Yordan does right now (Williams,Bonds,Trout and Mantle), so yeah, he's special and complete. His body holding up is the only real concern.

I don't consider this hyperbole when I say it, healthy Yordan could legit be one of the 10 best all around hitters ever, his total package is that good. Unfortunately he always seems to have something nagging.

This is spot on. Alvarez is obviously a total master hitter mentally and has all the physical ability to go with it, giving him a ceiling of being one of the 5 best hitters to ever play. It all depends on how his body holds up.

I am not sure we have seen a fully healthy Alvarez up till now. He had kneesles before he got here and is just now playing as if he has recovered for the most part. If he runs routes this winter he will trim down a little more and we might see a generational bat who is also a gifted fielder next season. When we first traded for him I bemoaned the fact that he was a pure DH with no defensive value and he is about to prove me very wrong.

He has already proven you very wrong.

I don't think anyone expected the defensive value he already provides.

But DON'T mess with him. He does not need to be leaner. 50-80 games in LF is fine and he has proven he can do that just as he is.

David Ortiz is one of the greatest hitters to ever live, and perhaps the greatest postseason hitter ever.

Yordan looks to be on his way to Ortiz level of offensive prowess, and has the added advantage of being capable in the field.

That said, I would take the 100% known in David Ortiz, but Yordan could easily end up Barry Bonds-esque (without the steals).

If you know what we know now and you get to keep them for their whole careers, you take Ortiz. Yordan is amazing, but with Ortiz you get 20 years worth of greatness (he had a 1.000+ OPS at age 40).

If you only have them through free agency, no question it's Yordan.

But David Ortiz didn’t start mashing until a few years into his career. He had a bit of an average first few years as I recall. Yordan started hitting right away.

yeah I just looked it up. Ortiz didn’t really start raking until he was in Boston and 27 years old.

David Ortiz, the only player to test positive and have everybody look the other way about it. That guy. Yordan in a landslide.

He's probably more like PED-Bonds because that version didn't steal as many bases, but yeah, I don't think we'll ever see the 2001 & later version of Bonds ever again. Aaron Judge's amazing year this year didn't come within 100 points of Bonds OBP or SLG for what Bonds averaged from 2001-2004. Just insane.

100% though his season is very 90s Bonds minus the steals.
