Lets sign Wilt Chamberlain to a veteran's minimum.

    God rest his soul, RIP.

But seriously, sign Michael Jordan. He can help the bobcats and the Rockets. Now that would be fun.

OK, really serious, Grant hill for the vertern's minimum would be a nice little addition for the Rockets. Granted he won't be an All-Star, but he's a definite improvement over Ryan Bowen, a guy who's not even over 30 (he's 30 NOW, but 31 this year). Hmmm, might be a good idea actually......if we still have holes after the offseason. After all, I think Grant Hill loves the game more than he loves the money, he has enough of that already.

Don't you think this summer is a little bit boring? Unually it is a lot easier to say "tank" than REALLY tank.

Actually it wasnt his ankle that was hurt last year, it was a sports hernia that kept him out.

Eh, that's just a mere technicality.

Okay, at this point, as I said, free agency is a dud and we have no trade pieces minus the big two and Luther Head plus the trade exception and a future draft pick.

To the guy who didn't like the idea of tanking a season, I agree, as a fan I hate that. But the 2007 draft looks good. Have you seen it? O.J. Mayo in a Rockets uniform? Greg Oden? Joakim Noah? That Chinese guy what's-his-name? I left about 10 other names. But anyway, I agree, as a fan I don't like tanking seasons.

As for signing Grant Hill for the veteran's minimum, there is nothing to lose. What do we lose? Ryan Bowen's usual spot? If Grant Hill gets hurt, so what? We have the same exact crappy roster we would have had without him. Tell me you wouldn't be excited seeing Grant Hill ( even an old-ass Grant Hill ) coming off the Rockets bench playing 10-15 mpg game, averging 5-6 ppg, 2 dimes, a steal or two, and 4 rebounds?

1.) He was an all-star merely two years ago and that was after injury

2.) With a conservative 15 mpg, you can play him without risking significant injury ( like GP with Miami )

    3.) He's cheap.

4.) We lose NOTHING if he fails.

Why would anyone be against trying this?

What the problem? I bet if we posted his courpse on a manican stand in the middle of the court, he would still play better Defense than juwan howard

No go. We'd have to spend too much on Kleenex to wipe down tinman's keyboard and monitor.

If it was really that important to be in the top of the 2007 draft class, they would have kept Gay, traded Tmac to the Bulls for their picks next year(via Knicks) - missed the playoffs by a handful of games this year and come back with nearly an entire lineup of young studs next year to surround around Yao.

Okay, sorry to tempt you on that one but seriously that would be foolish anyway - think about it long term. I don't mind the idea of Hill, but the bigger issue is that he is 33, has a sports hernia, and he refuses to have another surgery. 33 yr old generally don't heal themselves so I doubt he would even be fit enough to pass a physical. Do we really need a guy on the roster who can't pass a physical?

If he could pass the physical, Hill could be the McDyess of the Rockets. Keep him playing minimal minutes, but highly effective minutes. Since we'll have Rybo ready to go, it's definitely worth the risk of his breaking his neck on the court. I'm sure T-Mac could convince Hill to stick around a season or two.

We've kept Mutumbo around and he's almost 100 YO!!

    Lineup:
    Alston/Head/Sura
    T-Mac/Head/Wesley
    Battier/Hill/RyBo
    JHo/Battier/Hayes/
    Yao/Deke

and we still have the MLE and TE to use.

We still got Novak with the learning curve too. Hill could be a good mentor for the rook.

Exactly, Rio. We're on similar wavelengths here.

I don't understand if most of us don't have a problem with Mutumbo and Sura on our team, why not Grant Hill? Keep in mind that Stacey Augmon played last year and so did Cliff Robinson. GP proved effective with the Heat, hitting key shots in the Finals. Zo. McDyess. In fact, let's look at Zo. Zo plays on one good kidney and a borrowed one. That's like going to the race track with a 4-cylinder engine, and yet the Heat won the NBA championship. If Zo can play 10 minutes a night, so can Grant Hill. Zo wasn't even an all-star 2 years back. Grant Hill was. We gave Jon Barry and Bob Sura a try, why not Grant Hill?

And for glimmertwins: I'm big on the 2007, but not rebuilding. If we get a high draft pick next year, keep Tracy and Yao, we're talking a Tracy-Yao-Greg Oden/O.J Mayo/Joakim Noah combo. Again, not that I like tanking, but if we're gonna tank, next season is the one to do it. Of course, we'll risk pissing off Yao and T-Mac, but we're speaking only hypothetically.

G Hill is making 16 mil this season with Orlando. Orlando wont get rid of him because they still have to pay him and they are not paying luxury tax on his salary.

I don't think he is available, if he is, he is at least worth a MLE for a couple of years.
