E.T., I definitely did say that it was a moderated board and everyone should attempt order on this board even if it's to nudge newbies in the right direction. By the way, troll hunting on an unmoderated board does nothing. Again my proof is any ESPN board. I agreed with sirhangover that Behad perhaps went overboard with the name-calling, but as you said, their hearts are in the right place. My biggest beef was against the people that jump down the "Wrong Forum" guys or true troll hunters, or this crazy thing with post counts actually meaning anything. I do understand where you're coming from. Sure it does, because if the boss didn't accept what Mango or Behad had done or said to the point of them being that wrong, they would've been the ones banned or told to back off. Yet it was Rockeem. Huh. Imagine that. The way I've handled the whole ZRB situation was stupid. I was wrong, and I apologize. It's just that on a chat, I can show people how to ignore; there's no ignore on this BBS -- his bi-polar reactions were everywhere and I let it get to me. I acted stupid in trying to "set him ablaze". My mistake. Not always true. I know that's true in places such as Usenet, but there have been trolls on message boards that supposedly have been "ignored" that are still wrecking boards years later. Why? Because there's always someone new on the board that doesn't know about the history. I don't have a problem with that, either. The only ones I'd like to jump in and say "Wrong Forum" to are the ones such the Sean Kemp thread we have in the Rockets forum now. Like I said, I've made posts in wrong forums by accident, so of course everyone doesn't do it on purpose, that's why most of us that jump on people do it with a smiley. It's just humorous -- kind of like "we busted you and you can't delete the post". The only people that I really flame are the ones that come back with the attitude that they "can post wherever they damn well please". One thing I guess I really didn't respond to in the above statement is that by "moderated" I don't mean boards where people are able to kick and ban. By "moderated" I mean one in which people just make common sense statements such as "hey, you're posting this in the wrong forum, but good point anyway" or somesuch. I think that's moderation. And of course Clutch, Kagy, Jeff, etc. are the real moderators and Mango and Behad are not. We know that and they know that. I also, like you said, don't believe in just banning people outright, but when their actions, such as cross-posting flames across multiple boards for no other reason than to cause a board riot, start being bad on a board, I'm all for it. I guess this should probably go in heypee's thread, huh? Thanks for the thorough reply, Doc. It looks like we agree much more than we disagree. I have visited the ESPN chatroom a total of once, and never returned. I'd hate to see us get to that point, but I also don't want to run off new, potentially good posters because the rules are enforced too rigidly (and I hate to encourage trolls). Plus, we're supposed to be having fun! All in all, its a fine line to walk. (edit) Sorry I didn't see your last message. Yup, there are definitely times when banning is called for - but then again, unless you ban the entire IP address, they can just come back under a new name (like Rockeem'). Rockeem had been here for over a year(which is longer than I've been here), he should he known the consequences of going on a profanity laced tirade. I figured out that you put stuff in the proper forum within a day, and if new posters to the board don't get that, then someone needs to tell them. I feel the need to jump in here. Who appointed Behad and Mango to moderate these forums? We've already got Clutch, Jeff, keeley, BK, Will, and Administrator. Aren't 5 admins enough? I guess that, even though I think Behad and Mango are correct alot of times in their judgment, their view of what is proper and what is not is just that - their view. They aren't moderators or administrators, just members like the rest of us. Behad, I'd ask you to cease and desist. It seems the rules get stretched when it comes to attacking trolls, but I don't think they do (or should) allow for personal attacks like the one above, no matter if they are much more clever than your victim's. God knows I was sick to death of the whole ZRB thing, not becuase of ZRB (with whom I have no trouble at all) but because he took so many personal insults that were (1) uncalled for, (2) not allowed by the ToS, and (3) completely unpunished by Admins and self-appointed policemen (who were too busy attacking ZRB). Chase the trolls if you want, but don't attack them personally.
