Not even close to LaRue Martin. Not even close-- Christ, Martin was the number one overall pick in the 1972 NBA draft and he barely had any more impact on the NBA than I did.

    dang, that is sad. :(

edit: but seriously... he was too young. didn't know about the "passing thing", so the joke kinda slipped by.

I think the saddest thing is that Dare had the physical attributes to be an impact player in the NBA, but injuries combined with never being given the leadership and tutelage to become any better than a four-career-assist player led to his leaving the league. It would have been truly wonderful to have him somehow come to the Rockets and learn how to really play center under another 7' Nigerian named Hakeem. Very sad...

Heart attack, was he not in good health? What did he do after basketball?

makes you wonder if those rumors that he was really older than he claimed to be were true.

He was 7 feet tall. I believe heart problems aren't unusual in people of that size.

Kelly, not to be obnoxious, but check out the thread on the top level of the BBS about "contributing members." They/we can edit, I believe (even though I obviously never edit, unfortunately). Please note, contributing means buttkiss other than a financial donation to this free site. I am the strongest evidence that actual posting content has no correlation to "contributing" status.

Lots of folks walk around with arythmias, from what I understand. Pretty scary.

If only you'd bring the Keg Notes back, you could probably end up making a bigger impact. :)

RIP Dare. I still remember that amazing GW run in the tourney.
