Wake me up when Yi puts together half a season worth talking about. It's his 4th year now. He's played on 3 pathetic teams and was given every opportunity to establish himself (without success). If he doesn't have his long-anticipated "breakthrough" this year, it's ballgame on him being a worthwhile NBA player.

I think the idea of him being an elite player in the NBA is laughable.

It doesn't matter if he is elite. He would still be the happiest player in the NBA.

If only we could morph Yi's body into Yao's skills and character...

Yi is already a solid rebounder, though his defense can stand improvement.

Yeah, people are raggin on Yi cause he is Chinese.

It cant be because he hasnt shown one iota of the skill level his fanbois keep claiming he has. Face it, he is never going to be more than a marginal player in this league. It takes more than athleticism and height to be elite in the NBA.

You know, I was under the impression that the trainer David Thorpe and the Sports writer David Thorpe were two different people. But apparently they aren't. So I'm now going to assume that this David Thorpe is also the same David Thorpe:

I read the article, where did it say he wanted to be elite? Can't fault a guy for wanting to get better esp. when it's his contract year. He's tall but I don't think he's that great an athlete, I think he has a chance to hang around the league for 10 years and be a Drew Gooden type of player.

It's funny the OP just said Thorpe might become elite trainer if Yi succeeds, then everyone is laughing at the idea that Yi will become elite ;)

I don't see anything special about this guy, mediacore player will never achieve elite status.

No...MEDIAcore would be LeBron, Bosh, etc. Now, as for mediOcore, I don't think any player whos lasted in the NBA can be called that, and certainly not Yi. I've watched a few of his games, and I've like what I've seen. Firstly, he's more keen and agressive, especailly on the boards. Second, he is becoming a part of the game; before, when he was frozen our of the O for a few possessions, he would often lose intrest and intensity. Now, however, he's always contributing and being in the flow of the game, and doesn't hesitate to try to score when the chance arises. I'm not saying he's broken out into an "elite" player, but IMO he is seriously on the right track now. "the future comes one day at a time."-Dean Acheson :)

It was a joke about Tracy McGrady claiming that he would return to "elite status" at the beginning of last season (not this one, but the 09-10 season) because he worked with Tim Grover, Michael Jordan's trainer, during the summer.

Yi should be working more with Thorpe... Otis Thorpe. OT could teach the boy to become a man.
