This thread is horrid including the thread title... Is Yi good at basketball? Of course he is, he's in the NBA and you're not Is calling someone a fob acceptable? No. Let's get some racial remarks against blacks and others and this thread probably would've been locked already. "omg lighten up we're joking loLZ!" Yeah ok, typical iNTeRneT comeback. Are all the criticism against Yi warranted? Maybe a little. Regardless of who's behind it, the drama has certainly tainted his reputation to a certain degree. All these number projections after one bad/good game, holy crap people this has been done like countless times throughout the history of sports. What's there to argue about, wait and see the regular season.
Well the term fob is generally used on asians by other asians. So its not really that bad. Im sure if someone wanted to be racist they would use a more harsher term.
Well anyways I dont want to derail this wonderful thread so im just going to stop it here. Say what you want but most asians I know don't really care about that term.
im an asian american, born and raised here. a few years back, i returned to my parent's home land and taught english for 2 years. while i was there, i experienced my fair share of discrimination because i was a "reverse fob." i was basically ridiculed for not knowing the local customs and language... anyways, even though it is used in a joking manner, asians who have recently come to america or werent born in america probably dont enjoy being called a fob. we should do our part and not refer to them in this manner.
Why should I care how you feel? You are just being oversensitive if you feel offended by the name. I have my right of speech to say whatever I want. I dont give a rat ass about other people's feelings. Bite me. Yes I am a jerk.
Why should he care how you feel about how he feels? You're just being overdesperate for attention if you're going to randomly derail the ah forget it zzzzzzZZzzzz I'm not sure if you're like 12 or you're just really narrow minded in your way of thinking. "A couple ppl i know say the earth is a cube so it must be !" You already showed that you have little to no understanding about culture diversity, in general. Please don't try to somehow shift the blame by throwing a fictional "most ppl i know says X" at the end.
say it all you want. no one is stopping you. if you wanna be a jerk go right ahead and do it. but one day, youll probably run into a guy who dont take crap and has a 1000th degree black belt and can levetate... youll decide to be a jerk and he'll set you straight.
I think it's unrealistic to expect 12 ppg from Yi, personally. It's never a good situation when a player gets promised minutes. Never. That's going to put more pressure on him to produce well out of the gate. His teammates will resent him if he's not helping them win or if a more ready player is sitting out to give him time. Players DO NOT CARE about a rookie's eventual ceiling, they want to win today. Redd wants to make the playoffs now - he does NOT want to waste his prime giving up shots to a project. Add in the language barrier and the unfavorable first impression from the signing standoff, and Ji may find that his teammates are not going to try hard to help him along. I'm not saying that Ji will be iced out or that he will be terrible. He has hurdles and has to adjust to much more physical and quicker play that will frustrate him early on, but so did Yao. If he gets going like Bargnani did last year, he'll win everyone over. But if he struggles in Nov and Dec, and the Bucks are below 0.500, there will be an internal backlash that will make things much more difficult. He'd better bring doughnuts to the meetings.... Evan
Yi will average 16ppg 8rebounds 6assists and more than 10 double double this season!! and will be the best player in the rookies vs sophmores game
