Well, Dan Fegan, Yi Jianlian's US agent, is really putting in alot of effort to line up NBA veterans/coaches to train Yi in this 2 months (April ~ June).

The Dream might not be available for giving Yi some hints/advices.....but still a long list of coaches lined up to correct his form/weaknesses, to improve his skills, both in offense and defense and bulk him up in strength and conditioning:

    http://sports.sina.com.cn/cba/2007-04-12/15462864809.shtml

    • NBA Hall of Famer, Kiki Vandeweghe, former Portland Trailblazer's Chris Dudley and Don Maclean, UCLA Hall of Famer (Team mate of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) to train him on his shooting form and scoring ability.
    • Pete Newell, famous for his Big Man Camp to train big 7-footers, to train him on low post offensive and defensive skills
    • Joe Abunassar, personal trainer of Kevin Garnett & Chauncy Billup, to train Ah Lian on strength and conditioning
    • Milan Tiff, another UCLA Hall of Famer, 1970 and 1977 US Triple Jump national champion to train Ah Lian on sprinting and categories relating to speed.

This lady and her friends went to Hawaii for vacation.......

and she met Yi Jianlian also on a short vacation there.

She took some pictures of Yi, and posted them on her blog over sina.com.

    It happened around April 19

An interview of Yi Jianlian by Sina.com.

Not much exciting updates, except Yi wishing the Rockets luck to advance further into the playoff.

He said he is trying to adapt to the western food now, and when he wanted Chinese food, he can always go out with friends to nearby Chinese restaurants or asked the chef to cook Chinese food for him.

He thinks this year, the NBA champion would have to be from the Western Conference. He thinks Dallas Mavericks should have the highest chance and second favorite on his list is Phoenix Suns.

He did not think much about his earnings and investment options yet. He just focused on his training.

He is excited to be the first Chinese basketballer to be there in person on D-Day, but he had yet to think of buying his business suit.

He thinks USA training method is different, intense and unique, focuses alot on body contact, and stresses alot on physical strength.

And he said his daily schedule (Monday to Saturday) is fully packed: wake up around 8am , then 2 practices in the morning and afternoon, a total of 5 ~ 6 hours of training, which include running exercise on track field, with-ball O&D skills and contact basketball in the stadium, strength and conditioning in the gym and Yoga. There are English tutorials waiting for him in the evening.

So what do you guys think ? Is Yoga going to be good for him ?

To be specific, I hear it's just the free throw shooting form.

Yi needs to fire his agent, Chris Dudley once missed 17 of 18 fould shots including a record 13 straight. He's a a 45.8 % career free throw shooter.

You can't seriously think Dudley's really gonna teach Yi on FTs, can you? :D

I was joking about the FT shooting form because Dudley is a well-known poor FT shooter. Most likely he will tutor him in rebounding and blocking shots. Dudley was a very good shot blocker and rebounder in his hey days.

Uh, Don Maclean went to UCLA, but he was no teammate of Jabbar. Maclean was there in the early 1990's. He was actually briefly a Rocket in name as part of the Steve Francis deal (the one that got him here), but never played here.

OOPPSS.....I did some Google search to change the name of the player to Don Maclean, but forgot to remove that description. In the original sina.com article which I linked, they messed up Don Maclean with Mike Warren, which was also a UCLA HOFamer, a team mate of Jabbar. But I don't think Yi Jianlian will need a guard (Mike Warren) to train him instead of a power forward (Don Maclean).

Man, you are a joke. You 'guessed' that they have mixed up the two persons so you took the liberty to make the correction for them and then posted it on here like that's an exact translation of what they said in the article? Is that what you are trying to tell us? Anyway, how can you be so sure that they wouldn't hire Mike Warren? Perhaps he can teach the kid something like ball-handling, passing, etc?

Dude chill out, he's doing a service by translating this stuff in the first place. There's no need to be an ass about it because he doesn't have to do all of this in the first place.

Man....of course I have reasons to make that guess..........

In both sina.com and tom.com, they had it that the coaches' name was Mike somebody....a team mate of Jabbar and a UCLA HOFamer.

    http://nba.sports.tom.com/2007-04-12/0CSE/85873883.html

But if you can read Chinese, the resume of that player was not Mike Warren.... but belong to Don Maclean, who played power forward at UCLA (1988 ~ 92), and had played in NBA for 9 seasons with Washington, Denver, Philidelphia, New Jersey, Seattle, Phoenix, and Miami, obtained Most Improved Player Award in 1994, and tested positive of steroid in 2000.

    http://databasebasketball.com/players/playerpage.htm?ilkid=MacLeDo01

I did spend sometime Google searching for the name of Don Maclean.....and shared the information here for the basketball fans...........

I don't think I deserved to be insulted.
