I know endorsements play a lot more to the soccer players, but I was only talking to their salary, and in NBA, NFL, MLB they pay more to the players who are not superstars, im saying that the average is more elevate than soccer. And one more thing, I posted a lot of positive things about soccer, and you attack me with only one comment I made.
i am not attacking you, and yes u did make alot of great points about soccer, like how soccer really helps players of other sports by helping them with their footwork, iam only refuting one of ur comments not the whole thing. hope theres no hard feelings
Not to argue who are more athletic, your logic is false here. Just think about the fact that NBA can play back-to-back games sometimes, while the soccer team plays twice a week at most. From this you can imagine which players are more exhausted after the game.
when i saw this thread, i was thinking to myself, "what the hell does this have to do with muslims, because he is posting in the wrong forum." did anybody else think that?
As far as the thread title topic, people have already shown how stupid gwayneco is. I mean really, GM is an American company but you still dont expect them to give the armed forces their humvees for free. Why dont you throw a fit about that. Just stupid thinking. Look bottom line is how you train for a sport....now which player can play a different sport. In football, you train for strength and explosivness. In soccer, you train mostly for endurance. In basketball, you have kind of an average of the two. So yeah, bball and football players cant dream of keeping up w/ soccer players endurance-wise. But not because they can't but because they just dont train for it. Same with other way around. Also, anyone that says that soccer sucks is the most ignorant moron in the world. I like football, bball, and soccer. As far as the most recognizable players in the world, whoever mentioned Tiger Woods is just pure ignorance. You go to any country in the world and ask them who they know in sports. Names like Beckham, Ronaldinho, and soccer players will always come out. Jordan is the only bball player that a lot of countries know. But 8 or 9 times out of 10, they dont know who the hell is Tiger Woods. Even though he was the highest paid at a point, his fame does not extend to too many countries. One thing I can say about the world cup is that it is the greatest sports tournament in the world. I mean really, do you think that March Madness could stop a war? Just look at the numbers taht watch this tournament. Superbowl is the most watch game in the US and that barely hits over a 100 million people. World Cup gets 2 BILLION
i could only quickly find a list from 2004, but in Forbes 50 highest paid athletes in the world list, there are only 3 soccer players - beckham, ronaldo, and zidane. the other 47 include a couple of schumachers and then mostly all american sports stars. so unless something changed in the last 2 years or Forbes was just lying, American sports stars do in fact seem to get paid more b/t salaries and endorsements. Forbes 50 Highest Paid Athletes (2004)
It's not a coincidence that most of them are NBA players. There are not many American football players on the list either. I think the reason is there are only 12 players on a NBA team and usually only 1 or 2 are superstars and be paid accordingly. But it's not unusual for a soccer or football team to have more than 3 superstars. I remember a few years ago the Real Madrid (the one that Beckham and Ronaldo are playing for) arguably had 6 players who could be considered superstars at that time. Take a look at the Chelsea in England. They practically have star players in every position. Some of them can only start in every other game because the team is so stacked. And if you have to distribute the salary to so many great players, the portion of pie each of them can get becomes smaller.
Do European leagues have salary caps? Baseball teams have alot of stars playing together (ie. yankees) but since theres no salary cap, its possible for teams to have a concentration of star players
Sorry I don't really know. May be the more knowledgable soccer fans on this site, like RocketFan007 or Swoly-D, can answer this question.
you have offended Swoly-D. He will respond by saying. HUFF HUFF. I am mexiCAN. and i CAN tell you that I KNOW FUTBOL!!!! GOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL GO GO GO GOLLLLLLLLLLLL GOL GOL GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Just kidding. I've come around on Swoly-D.
Umm...so what? FIFA has a business to run, it's not like they have some anti-American agenda. Gwayneco thinks everything that goes on in the world has to do with getting back at the big bad U.S...talk about a persecution complex, not to mention living in a perpetual state of fear and paranoia...I feel for you gwayneco!
Man this is a r****ded thread. So what they don't give it for free. Everybody else is paying for the feeds but the US FREEDOM FIGHTERS should be an exception right? Since they're SO COOL like that. pleaseeeeeee.................
No they don't have. The richer the club, the more star players they can get. See Real Madrid, see Barcelona, see Chelsea. But as in basketball, star power does not mean titles, see Real Madrid. It's still a teamsport and role players are very important. To many divas just dont work (Lakers with Shaq, Kobe, Payton and Malone).
Actually, Even in the US basketball players are not the most paid. Baseball has the largest contracts hands down. They do play twice as many games but $ per game is not the question here. Salary is.
You see the difference is, Here we have 1 NFL, 1 NBA etc etc in Europe they have many 'NBAs and NFLs'. English Premier league, Italy Seria A, German Bundesliga, etc etc... They have many Juggarnauts leagues(in Spain, France, Holland, and several smaller leagues(in nearly every smaller europeon country such as Greece, Turkey, Sweden etc etc. Also, MLS, J-League are the minor league equivilant.
