I agree, if you're going to trade for Love, then you need to have Asik there for help defense.

For the people who want Smith, you're getting him for defense. His offense is nothing special safe for some cuts and dunks. He's not a competent spot-up shooter, nor is he a competent post-up player.

Not sure if I'd include Asik in the deal, but I'd trade Parsons in a heart beat for Love in a package. With guys like Iggy likely being FAs, Parsons can be replaced.

What I got from that is the sense that Josh Smith takes waaay too many mid-range jumpers.

Exactly. Lower the amount of jumpers he takes and make him post up instead. He'll become a much more efficient player.

I haven't read through the entire thread yet but I've been through the Timberwolves forum on the issue of trading for Love. Most of their discussion has been about trading him sooner than later to get more value, but I (like some on their forum) don't think MN trades until before his option comes up (2 years). I do think that if a trade happened soon, we don't have anything valuable enough to get him as they might be able to get 80-90% value for him. If they wait until the 2014 deadline it'd be something more like 75% which I think we could swing for at that time.

They're talking about getting a really good post player and young big in return since they think their backcourt is solid.

I think whether you go after Smith, Millsap, or whoever else now at the PF you'd have to get them on a value contract in order for them to be a valuable trade piece later if you're thinking of trading for later for Love.

Regardless of whether such an acquisition would be to trade for someone later in 2014, I think DM's MO has been never to overpay for someone's contract unless he thought they'd be a cornerstone piece moving forward.

That said, I don't know if it's possible to sign Smith on a value contract as he'd probably be demanding the max. I suppose it's hard to sign someone in FA on a reasonable contract since other teams screw up the market value by overpaying themselves. I think in order to stay flexible for any potential trade down the line DM will have to find someone in trade or a RFA. The only way he'd sign a UFA for the max is someone who is way more valuable than the max (LBJ, KD, etc). I just don't think Smith fits that profile.

LOL. A team that's shooting around 30% on 3P% and had a 2/27(?) from 3 game thinks their backcourt is solid? Rubio, Shved, and JJ are an interesting/creative backcourt - but mostly they can't shoot. MIN fans should be looking for shooters.

yeah i just skimmed it but i think someone said shved is improving and rubio hasn't returned back to full form yet. Regardless, it's a fan forum and like ours they tend to over-rate their players with homer lenses. I think Parsons would have to be included for value and he would be helpful for their perimeter play.

If one of our PF's turns into a stud or we get a Millsap/Smith on a friendly contract, I think one of those and Parsons + a pick would be about the 75% value needed to make a trade in 2014....no way now though...we're not players in that market.

The Wolves won't trade Love this season. However we keep on hearing how much Kahn loves Pau Gasol.

Trade for Pau and then flip him him for Love in the 2013 season or S&T in 2014.

I think our best strategy is be patient and wait until this season is over. Let's see how PP, G. Smith and other 4's develop this season. They are working hard and picking up new skills fast. Don't break a machine that is working so well and improving.

I really don't want Love. He's a great player but I just hate that guy.

I love alley oops, too. But I think some of you are so jubilant over Lin tossing them up (to Tyson Chandler) that I can't help to  every time I see that. They only happen once or twice a game at the most, unless you're LAC, and have little impact on anything except for "Lin highlights" and woohoos. The block parties, I can agree with you on. Enter JSmoove... git r dun Murray!

You said we have too many players who dont know how to defend from a team prespective. You using that statement to bring down smith in a thread where people are discussing love/smith is what made me make my statement. If you want to compare love and smith in terms od rebounding, spacing and the things you stated i agree, but smiths defensive things cant be used against him if you are using is as a point to devalue smith. Love is a horrible defender.
