I saw a plasma in a friends house, and I had a LCD in my house, so I compared them, and I prefer how the picture looks. Im not an expert, so maybe Im wrong, but thats my opinion, and I prefer LCD/LED over plasma TVs.
Not trying to say your opinion is invalid. Keep in mind the differences in setting makes a huge differences. You know this already by playing with the setting on your TV. I bet you totally hate some preset settings like "Game" or "Movie" etc.
I know the settings makes the TV look different, and maybe looks the same for other people, but I still prefer how the picture looks in LCD/LED than in plasma.
I am just saying unless you changed both to your personal preference, it would be hard to make that determination. The settings on plasmas also work differently than LCDs. Another massive factor is relative quality. If you own a 4K dollar LED set and your friend has a cheap plasma like a TC-P50X3, it is hard to make such a universal conclusion.
yeah, alot of people don't set their tvs correctly. especially on LCDs when there settings are way too high. I didn't know Yao Ming had a sun tan. I like that Plasma's view angle is superior, you can set anywhere and the picture doesn't degrade. You can't be off angle on LCDs.
To follow up, I went ahead and purchased a Samsung PN59D7000. I found it online at Abe's of Maine for $2,170. For a 60 inch plasma I definitely could have gone with a cheaper model and not really noticed a huge difference. I could have found or waited for a deal on a Westinghouse or something and saved $500-$1000 (I'm noticing a Westinghouse 60 incher on sale on the net for $1,000). BUT, what can I say, I see nice, new and fancy, and I get sucked in. I have not had a plasma before, and despite all the reviews saying light reflection has really improved, I wanted to be extra sure, in case a room got some really bright daylight (not 100% sure what type of room this will ultimately go into), that I was good, and the D7000 provided some extra protection over, say the D6500, there. And frankly, I am very confident saying the plasma will give me the most badass picture quality available today (same with Panasonic), whereas the Westinghouse definitely will not. Moreover, in regards to the higher end units, this Abe's price was really very solid. Of course, on the internet, so no tax. shipping was included. And at $2,170 it was $170 less than the cheapest I could find it elsewhere. plus, Abe's came with a free wall mount. and, relative to a panasonic, samsung is supposed to be including 2 free active 3D glasses to anyone who purchased one of their new 3D models after April 24th (though the latest per cnet is that Samsung is still working out how to get said glass to purchasers; still their active 3D glasses are now only $50 bucks compared to Panasonic's, which haven't yet dropped in price). As a comparison, the apples to apples Panasonic comparison model would have been the TCP60GT30. The cheapest I could find it online was $2,517 - and as noted, no free glasses, no free wall mount. if you read avsforum's, pretty much every model reviewed will have people chime in regarding some minor imperfection here or there. some people did get shipped samsung's with some real issues, but many/most not. same with panasonic. i won't be able to tell the difference. i will try and update with pics once it arrives and i get it set up, but it'll be a few weeks. thanks all!
