Curry should definitely be in the conversation for the top shooters in history. My point is the same as its always been since the Klay vs Harden thread. These guys are fantastic shooters but we can't fully separate the impact of being in the most shooting friendly system in NBA history. Look at what we're seeing with Harden and Gordon this year under D'Antoni. The NBA is seeing triple doubles handed out like candy, and 3 pointers like it has never seen. Put Curry on the Sacramento Kings for the last few years. Put Klay on the Brooklyn Nets. Suddenly we're not seeing them on ESPN 24/7 and we're not talking about them with the same reverence. Also - do you think coaches in the 80's / 90's encouraged guys to heave from half court just to spread the floor? The answer is no. So your Reggie Millers, Larry Birds, etc don't have the benefit of 2017 NBA basketball. When comparing players to history, nothing is ever "without question", that's where I draw the line. With Curry i'm just trying to moderate people's worship. As for Klay Thompson... possibly the most overrated player in the NBA today. Put Gordon in his place on the Warriors and see the same results.
All these replacement claims people try to make are just not really valid. Both of those guys are different players. There isn't a player in the league completely identical to another. They both have their own things they do well. And they both have there own things they don't do well. There's a lot of other aspects to the game besides the simple shooting which it seems you think is the only reason why you would see the same results. Even then both are different types of shooters
Uhhh did you watch the Super Bowl? Brady did nothing but pass and still killed them. That's because an average pass attempt is worth 8-10 yards while an average run is worth 4-5 yards.
After the Pels game, of shooters taking more than 2 attempts/game, Golden State was shooting 0.8% better than the Rockets from 3 on 7 less attempts per game.
