Most people make a bigger deal out of it than it is?

You get 20 pieces a day, what about those of us that get several hundred? And don't try to tell me that there are good electronic solutions; I have had 3 in effect and many spams still get through, and some valid business e-mails do not.

What about those of us that have a domain that was 'used' by these spammers, and then our real e-mails are refused because of the spammer's misuse?

You sound like someone who gets one telemarketer call a year, and want to know why they're restricted from calling evryone else too early or too late.

Why is it so hard to prosecute this???

Most of the spam is adverts. You would think you could somehow fine the company being advertised -- afterall they must somehow initiate it? Somehow...somebody wants you to send them money -- so why is the trail so difficult?

Most of them are fly by night businesses or businesses overseas that aren't subject to US regulations.

EDIT: This is especially true of the ads for viagra, cialis, or other pharmaceuticals. They buy them in Mexico or Canada and send them here.

Too late for the probes on Mars though. :(

Spam is out of this world
    By Adam Turner

A torrent of interplanetary spam has been found responsible for crippling the onboard computer of NASA's Spirit rover in January.

Spirit lay crippled on the Martian surface for two weeks after a glitch in its onboard spam filtering saw countless offers of p*rnography and cheap drugs choke its flash memory, according to NASA spokeswoman Shirley Knott.

"It would appear Russian spammers obtained Spirit's email address from a leaked internal NASA mailing list," says Knott.

"The rover's limited onboard artificial intelligence was foolish enough to apply for an shonky online marketing diploma. Soon after offers of cheap WD40 and antenna enlargements began clogging the link between Mars and NASA's Deep Space Network. Eventually, Spirit's file management software choked and sent a distress message to the central processor which kept rebooting."

Technicians solved the problem by upgrading the artificial intelligence on both Spirit and its twin Opportunity.

"The rovers now have enough sense not to respond to spam or open unknown email attachments, which makes them smarter than your average person," says Knott.

The news comes too late for the British Mars probe Beagle 2, which is believed to have fallen prey to a Martian strain of the Nigerian money laundering scam.

Controllers have been unable to remotely reset the probe and expect it to keep bombarding the earth with spam for eternity, introducing itself as the brother of former Martian president Joseph Estrada and appealing for help to transfer money back to earth.

it is wasting my EMAIL SPACE

this would be like me throwing my garbage in your
    garbage bend everyday . ..
Even if the Garbage truck runs everyday
you get tire of me not paying for garbage collection
and taking up your garbage space [esp when u cannot
put your garbage in the barrel cause me and a 100
of my friends have put ours in it]

Even if the garbage can and pickup were free. . .
IT'S YOUR GARBAGE CAN and no one should
just throw stuff in without your permission
If it is a coke can .. find but when you get 100
    Coke cans a day . . . .
