I imagine he's changed his tune since then... hasn't exactly had the Ben Stiller / Matthew McCounaghy career path. though he has leveraged them for work. Dude was in Argo recently. I think Dazed and Confused is a great movie, but it is of the generation just before mine, so can't comment on accuracy. To my generation, it "felt" accurate.
Sequel or remake? The cast could be grand dads by now, right? Well, I might get a kick out of seeing old dudes taking bong rips and hazing each other.
he used to own one of the bookstores right? A lot of my friends hung around with him sometimes. Having lived in Huntsville when the movie came out, it was a huge deal at the time so I'll probably watch it on DVD or netflix. My wife is 6yrs older than me and she loves the movie because she says it really takes her back to when she was a kid.
He always seemed like an ok dude to me, but I never partied with him. Maybe he catches an attitude when he gets liquored up.
The original script concept ("Thats What I'm Talking About" working title) is a "spiritual sequel" to Dazed & Confused in college in the 80's. It would not be set in the 90's or 2K's. That does make sense, basically following another class in the approximate time period. (Linklater said its "closer to The Hangover than anything else out there." Interesting) Though the 80's have been romanticized and lampooned to DEATH already. (I STILL get surprised at 80's lasting staying power). But the Nineties is underwhelming to most people. And 2K to now, just not enough time or cultural influence where the scene can be "thoughtfully replicated". So guess it leaves 80's and back as usual. For cameos, I think some of the meathead characters like Wooderson (McConaughey) and O'Bannion (Ben Affleck) would be most effective in a kinda MOCKING tone. They don't need any kind of "appropriate age" to them. Affleck's acting chops alone could make that character significant. Everyone else, not so much.
