Do you really want to continue to deal with this person, after she attempted to defraud you? She may be playing nice now, but given her history, I have no doubt she'll try to squeeze more money out of you in the future.

This is what I'd suggest. Talk to a lawyer and find out if you can use the evidence you have (email, conversations) as leverage to end your lease early. Then find a place with a good management company/landlord, and then move there.

 

You rented a duplex to where you are expected to foot the bill on repairs and your landlord does this by tacking on additional amounts to your monthly rent and/or sending you the repair bills to pay?

That makes no sense. The way it should work is you pay the monthly rent and the landlord pays to upkeep their duplex for any repairs.

Please tell me you did not sign a lease that says you are paying for all "authorized" repairs at the duplex in addition to monthly rent. I see what she tried to do here to blame you'll for an unauthorized attempt to repair behind her back by getting the neighbor to lie...but you make it sound like you'll are paying for other repairs one way or another in addition to the monthly rent.

You'll are definitely being robbed.

 

This has epic potential if you pressure her to have sex with you or else you'll sue her. Of course you have to take pictures and videos of the action, the CF.net guys here want to see it.

I would consult with a lawyer.

Here is what you do, create a fake email account and pretend to be a lawyer, create a dialog in which your "lawyer" is citing what laws Miriam is breaking and he's suggesting you sue for 50,000 in damages. Then you forward the conversation to Miriam and say this can all go away if you give us 6 mos free rent and leave us alone the rest of the time we live here.

 

She sounds a like crook. I'd definitely at least talk to a lawyer and see what your options are.

Are you sure Omar is working for Miriam? I thought she was just trying to play him and manipulate him so that he'd give her the evidence she needed to frame you guys. It seems like if he was working for her, she'd just tell him what to do, and not have to lie about you guys trying to blame him.

Mostly you just want to move out. It's nice to stand up for justice and stop evil-doers and all, but it's a lot more trouble. You might be able to stop short of getting a lawyer (who will cost as much as the rent) by filing a police report for the attempted fraud. When you say you want to break the lease, she might just be happy to be rid of you so she can move in some fresh blood.
