Fishers value to this team can be > Juwan's. At least he can do what the position requires, and pretty well at that. Juwan on the other hand is and has always been an overpaid PF who refuses to rebound and hangs on the perimeter far too much.
We're stuck with Howard's contract, we can choose not to take on Fisher's. Fisher can still shoot but he has slowed down substantially over the years. He's average at best in terms of agility at this point and is somewhat of a defensive liability. The guy is smart and can still score but he's not worth the money he's making. Plus he's on the later end of his career and won't get better and will only get worse.
Dude would you just like to make every post on your own thread! Derek fisher isnt even close to rafer especially when we get mj why the hell would we want fish!
??? Im curious, are you telling me I cant post in certain places? I take it you want me to accept your opinion on this, and im glad you chimed in, but from the looks of it, you are asking me a question that i already answered. If you dont agree, thats fine, but dont hijack the thread and turn the attention to any of the posters
Combine Fisher (Def, shooting), James(energy, scoring), and Alston(passing, unselfishness)...And you've got yourself a decent all around PG. All our possibilites have some kind of liability. But what Rockets PG hasnt had one in the past 50yrs.
I don't see the point if we're bringing in James. I mean we are talking about doing this if we bring in James first. I'd like to see what Alston could do with some stability and a more solidly defined role, whether it's off the bench or starting next to James. And Fisher is more of a spot up shooting PG than a distributer, so he duplicates a lot of stuff that James would provide. A tandem of James/Alston provides a much more varied skillset, while James/Fisher is a bit redundant. I'd rather just keep Alston unless Golden State is tossing in a sweetner like Pietrus (fat chance).
I don't agree he can defend better. I don't feel that his experience in winning is even worth mentioning. He just happened to play on better teams than Alston. Alston hasn't whined since he's been here. There have been absolutely no reports of him being any sort of locker room problem here and I really don't agree that Fisher plays the half court more effectively than Alston. But for the sake of argument, let's say you're right on every single point - he still 32 years old. He still makes far more money than Alston and do you remember his final years in Los Angeles? He was terrible. I admit, I haven't even watched him since he's been at Golden State but I can't imagine he's improved since he was with the Lakers. At best I think this trade is a wash talent wise, but Fisher comes with a heavier price tag.
Nay... DFish is overpaid and loves to control the ball now that he is in GS... he will not be a good fit for this team
Nay, not worth it. I'm content with Alston running the point. He may not be the best of the best, but the PG position is far from our biggest worry right now. Plus Fisher is hardly an upgrade over Alston.
I don't like Fisher for the Rockets. I don't think he was ever a clutch shooter for the Lakers on the road, only at home, like Devean George. Thier support guys dissappeared on the road (Fisher). The one thing I liked about being at the Rockets games last season was how fast Rafer got us into SOME kind of a play. After watching Barkley dribble the cover off the ball and then Stevie do the same thing it was nice to see a point guard get us into SOMETHING with more than 8 seconds left on the clock. If his shot improves or we surround him with better shooters he won't have to jack up junk at the end of the clock. That's when he looked the worst last season. I like having Rafer at the start with TMac at the two, Battier, Howard and Yao. Then when we have the awful end of first/start of second, bring in Mike James at the two and Novak at the three and slide Battier to the four. With Deke for Defense and Novak and James looking to shoot three's Rafer could drive and dish to Battier or we could bombs away. For about 8 good minutes that second group looks like fun. After that, whoever is playing well plays. Likely depending on matchups, Tmac and Yao come back and Juwan sits. Rafer and James at times, Head to spell them in brief stints. I think this sounds like a team that's a lot better than last year.....
Nay. Rafer is quicker, better at setting up an offense. On the flip Fisher is a better shooter. However, I'll take Rafer and his game in our system over Fisher. Also, Fisher gets paid more for longer. He's definitely on the decline.
I think it would only be fair to toss Head into the deal, so make it Rafer + Head for Fisher Then, after CD discovers Fisher sucks, they can use the 07 first rounder to get rid of his huge contract so that Les will be more willing to use next year's MLE on a tall sg after CD and co realizes that Battier is better coming off the bench. That way in 2 years we'll have an awesome rotation of Yao / Charles Jones Juwan / Battier Tmac / Battier MLE sg(probly eddie house) / Battier Mike James / Moochie
Possibly.... With Morey as our suedo-GM, we have to start looking at 82games for every decision. Fisher has got a fair salary of 6.11 M vs. his 5.4 M salary. His plus/minus is in the black and is better than Baron's. That being said, no way unless Mike James signs somewhere else.
