Lombardi likes TJ: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...off-with-yates-not-leinart-more-week-12-notes
FTA: I couldn't agree more with this. Once I saw him play, I was more worried about the next few games with Leinart in there than I am with Yates. Yates isn't great, but he gives the Texans a better shot than Leinart would.
I agree.. T.J looks the part of a fan favorite... Just let it fly... All we need is 1/2 wins anyhow... We got a chance to become America's darlings... Let's embrace it, and play with reckless abandon... We don't have **** to lose !!!
The Leinart injury is a blessing in disguise. I remember thinking that there's no way we could win a playoff game with Leinart. He doesn't wait for routes to develop. The hot potato analogy couldn't be more spot on.
The key is Kubiak, let the kid loose, free TJ, let him make some mistakes and some plays, we need to keep the offense the same, pass to set up the run, throw the ball downfield, we really need Kubiak to step up his offensive scheme, the defense will end up #1 and win another game or 2 for us.
Kubiak did the right thing by going conservative yesterday with a 10 point lead. Gibbard clearly wasn't going to beat you, so why take a chance by opening up the offense? Just get the win. That's all that matters from here on out.
Don't change the gameplan!!! Keep it the same as if Schaub was in there. You'd do more damage by changing the offensive scheme 12 weeks into the season. If you're Kubiak keep everything the same against Atlanta. Let's see what Yates can do. If he flops horribly then you turn to ultra conservative. But if he does good and exceeds expectations then you keep the gameplan the same. No, Yates isn't Schaub but he is fairly capable of making similar plays. Don't change the gameplan.
I think they went conservative because if Yates gets knocked out on a blitz or whatever, then you're left with OD as the back up and that does not bode well at all. If Yates starts the ATL game, I'm sure they will open the play book and not go super conservative/run only.
Yeah I figured that's why they went conservative the rest of the game... But you're right, if Yates starts against Atlanta they have to see what he can do.
I think Yates has the ability, this season, to possibly step in and be Schaub-lite. He will never have the command of the playbook, or the chemistry with teammates that Schaub does, but I think Yates has all the talent (and maybe a little more) that Schaub does. There are a lot of football people that are high on Yates. When we drafted him, Dilfer and Kiper praised it as a great pick. They both had Yates rated very highly. Kubiak speaks greatly of him, also. With great coaches and some talent, let's see how quickly he can learn. I know the system they ran at North Carloina was similar to what the Texans run, and I know Yates has studied and worked with Schaub. Let's see how quick he can learn. In the sense that Yates seems to stay in the pocket longer, and not check down as often, I think he might be a better fit for this team than Leinart. Leinart is obviously the more NFL ready quarterback, but I'm not ready to count Yates out just yet. By this time next week, chances are, I will not be as optimistic, but the kid does have talent. Let him have his week of reps, and let's see what he can do. He'll have the keys to the car in what I think will be our toughest game left in the season. If he can beat Atlanta, I think he can beat Cincinatti. If he can beat both, watch out - this team is not done.
