My take hasn't been on minorities, but with men.

Any man who killed their 5 kids for ANY reason would be on death row. There wouldn't even be a question about it. And men get manipulated by their wives just as much, if not more than women do.

While I do believe the woman needed help, she lost that priveledge when she killed the children.

A life sentence made the most sense to me. This woman should never be in society again, regardless of how much drugs "cure" her.

I think post-partum depression is real. I also don't see women killing their kids as a result of it. Therefore, it shouldn't even be a defense.

This is just right. She was totally delusional and psychotic, hearing voices and thinking it was Satan etc. Why can't people understand this?

I have to agree with you there, if it were a man, he would have been on the fast track to death row.

Max, I know criminal law isn't your forte, but can you confirm the following?

I remember, vaguely, taking a class on the criminal mind through a psychological focus.

Our professor, a criminal psychologist (is that the right name?), argued that the use of the insanity plea actually makes up a small percentage of plea's and or a successful defense.

She went on to say that Hollywood and Network dramas have elevated the plea of insanity to our Urban Legend dialogue as a wacky legal loophole that allows "slimy" defense lawyers to get hardened killers off the hook.

    Agree, disagree?

Yeah, the insanity plea rarely works as a defense in murder cases, I think % of successful ones are extremely low

Can someone provide me with a link that says that no man has ever been "not guilty by reason of insanity"?

    TIA.

I don't give a siht how crazy she is, hospital life is too good for her, the relationships she will undoubtedly develope while in hospital she doesn't deserve. Throw her in a hole and let her waste away until she's dead, it sickens me that some people have more compassion for a monster like this than someone like Terri Schiavo for instance.

That is what I tought, but the general perception is that it is some golden ticket, a stay-off-of-deathrow-free card...
