Re - read what JVG is saying, he basically states the plan is not for Sura to feed the post but rather let the offense go into a motion and get Yao the ball when he's in a position where the defense can't collapse and he can get the ball without getting a turnover. He "lessen the times for Yao to be the first option". So the next time you see Sura not pass to Yao in the post, it's not because he's ignoring Yao, they are going into the offensive plan and if Yao can end up getting an easy shot because of the offensive plan then it's a easy two. But he won't be the first option (which is opposite of what every "Sura had a chance to pass Yao the ball there and didn't" fan wanted). Does he think Yao should get the ball more? Yes. Does that mean he wants Yao to get the ball when he's not in the position to score? NO.
D***! JVG! You just offended a lot of "true" ROF, those "Rockets Only Fans". Yeh, the mighty "true fans". Ah...... We are winning, cann't you just shut up and not talk about these negative stuff!!!!!
Sura has taken excessive criticism to no end from some so-called Rocket fans. "Sura plays with heart and hustle, but has small brain...Sura doesn't pass ball to Yao,...Sura is a ballhog...Sura doesn't know he is a role player...yada, yada, yada. Can you guys read? JVG plainly said he doesn't want to try to pound the ball low to Yao, but start the offense and let Yao get the ball in the flow. That means Sura no pass Yao! Most of the conflict has been because Sura has been bashed repeatedly by ignorant posters. Now some of you guys want to act like you were somehow justified in bashing Sura because JVG wants Yao to have more touches. Everyone would like to see Yao get more touches. Don't be such assholes and bash a guy who has been instrumental in turning the team around.
None of what you say means the team wouldn't be even better if Sura could find Yao more. It's not bashing Sura to say that.
"He feels that Yao was missed far too often with his defender at his back, and in the paint. He is our best percentage shooter and needs to be found more often." Again, it's not bashing Sura to say the team would be better if Sura found Yao more.
Way to take it out of context to change the intent. Here is the verbage immediately preceeding your creative editing. "and that about 6 weeks ago, he had the team limit, or lessen the amount of times that Yao is made the first option in the offense (meaning he isn't given the ball at the start). Rather, he wants Yao to be brought into a play as it plays out, to take advantage of moving the defense via the play." If you put the two quotes together, you get a clear understanding of what JVG said. You know fully well that what I am talking about is the ridiculous crucifying of Sura, not some watered down little "the team would be better if Sura found Yao more."
The point guard on this team is not the player on the court primarily responsible for getting Yao the ball. Sura is supposed to get the ball up the court and pass the ball to someone else, that person passes to someone else, and eventually the ball will end up in Yao's hands. The offense is not designed for Sura to dribble the ball up the court and immediately throw the ball into Yao. It's the team's job to get the ball to Yao, not just Sura. He's only 1/4th responsible for getting Yao the ball.
If Yao isn't the first option in the offense, that even gives sura less a reason to pass to Yao as much as some people want. Think about it. 1. Sura brings it up court, like the PG is supposed to! 2. Sura passes the ball to our first option, AKA T-MAC not Yao. 3. T-mac then does his thing to try and get off the highest percentage shot by either him or our 2nd option, AKA YAO! I know these steps aren't set in stone, they are as general as you can get but one thing that sticks out is that in our offense the SG will be the one finding Yao more often than the PG. Yao is now the end of our play or the middle, not the beginning. At the beginning of the season during our "pound it into Yao" phase, the argument of Sura not passing to Yao enough is more legitamate because Yao was more of a first option.
JVG clearly thinks Yao should get the ball more when the defender is at his back. No one has argued it should be at the beginning of the play. We've spent about 10 threads arguing over whether it was in fact a phenomena that Yao was open in the post and didn't get the ball when he "should" have. JVG acknowledges it in the call. Therefore, it is a real occurence and not some imagining by Yao only fans (however obnoxious their posts). Sura is a primary ballhandler who sometimes misses Yao when the defender is sealed. That doesn't detract from him being great for this team in other respects. But the great things he does also should not make him immune to any criticism at all.
Whoa, exactly the point i was trying to make in my post Glad i wasn't the only one who thought of this.
