You know, I was going to bring that up as well. There are a lot of times when Yao gets swarmed by two or three players and they start hacking away. Naturally he turns it over. NO FOUL!

He still turns it over more than he should, but a few of those a game are due to this type of bad officiating.

I don't believe in all out conspiracies, but he doesn't get calls that most players do, let alone superstars.

On the blocks, I find it interesting about the undercounting. I watched the highlights and they show two blocks on Lebron, but he only has one credited. This is definitely hurting his numbers.

Is there anything we can do to get this BS league's attention? I mean the kobe supporters cried about LBJ's triple in NY and it was looked at and a rebound was taken away.

If we make enough noise, they have to take notice.

I'm really shocked at this "under-counting" thing! As a big man and due to his stamina problems, Yao plays less minutes than those guards and SFs, yet he is still among the most efficient players in the league. that said, if the league is really undercounting his stats like boards and blks, wow, maybe he is actually THE most efficient player...
props to you effort man, somebody suggest excel and i think if you don't know how to do it you can simply post it like below(just an example):

Date Against Blk Recorded Blk You Counted Diff
    2008/12/1 Mavs 2 3 1

    Details: (the blk you counted are at) 3min in 2nd Q, 5min in 3rd Q, 11min in 3rd Q.

it's a lot of work but i think if you are going to go thru the videos anyway, you can do these for us to check the clips and to be more credible ;)

noticed this too, never thought anything of it. one game i swore yao had like 5 blocks, i look at the stat sheet and it said 2. i just thought i was seeing things but maybe there is a basis to it.

Yao's ability to intimidate the opposing offense in the paint is GREATLY underrated, anyways. I think he misses out on a lot of blocks by just scaring people away with his size. I mean haven't we always been at or near the very top in allowing the fewest opponent points in the paint every season since Yao has been here?

How can you say that he's not a good shot blocker? He averages almost 2 Blocks a game. Dwight Howard averages 3 a game.

i have noticed that yao gets shafted on his blocks and rebounds stats too. he doesn't get under counted on rebounds as blatantly as blocks because it is easier to see who got the rebound.

however, i think many score keepers are very "conservative" when crediting yao with a block. whereas other players like dwight howard or tim duncan get credited with a block if it "looks" like they got a finger or a hand on it, yao doesn't get that same benefit of the doubt. sometimes, the score keepers respect yao and they credit him with a block, anytime it looks like he got a hand on it. that is why sometimes, yao has monster games with 6-7 blocks.

yao friendly refs = many points and few fouls for yao
anti-yao refs = few points and many fouls for yao

yao friendly scorekeepers = many blocks for yao
anti-yao scorekeepers = few blocks for yao

Until This year, Dwight Howard was not the best Shot blocker in the league, this year he had a hot start where he averaged like 4 blks per game in the first month and that set him up for the league-leader in blocks

His Career average in blocks is 2.0 in exactly 36 minutes a game.

Yao's is actually better throughout his career blocking 1.9 in 32.5 minutes

    PER 36

    Dwight : 2.0

    Yao : 2.1

Dwight has just become a stellar shot-blocker this year.

The measurement is for total wingspan. It's pretty much impossible for a person to have arms as long as they are tall.

I think the average person has wingspan close to his or her height. Yao just has average arm length for his height; many NBA players have more impressive wingspans. Kevin Durant, for example, is 6'9" but has 7'5" wingspan!

I've noticed he's doing better on D also. But I think the real reason for his better shot-blocking is that Shane and Ron are finally healthy and preventing people from getting into the lane. Plus, t-mac is no longer out there as a defensive liability. Yao can be an effective defensive presence if you have the right defensive concept/execution. You need strong perimeter D and a good p-n-r plan and he can be put in a position to intimidate down low and take away the low post.

Well, at least this undercounting of his blocks, and the being hacked and hammered without them calling any fouls on the defensive players guarding him, at least shows that Yao is a better player than his stats would indicate on the surface.

He alters quite a few shots as well which helps out a great deal.

I was also shocked that he only had 1 block, since I saw quite a few from Shane and Yao so figured they both had around 3. I remember 2 by Yao on Lebron and it was really clear, unlike some people who try to defend the statskeepers by saying Yao's are not as clear as Howard's or whoever. It's definetly something racist against Yao, because they can get away with it and probably feel he doesn't fit in here.

Funny that nobody ever complained about it before, but when you try to point out the truth it's easily labelled 'conspiracy theory' which people find crazy or over the top. It's just like 9/11, which clearly was staged by the US, but since the truth is called a conspiract theory most do not even want to hear about so don't believe it. Just like the 2005 rockets - mavs, 2002 lakers kings and such.

Yao's a legend no matter what so screw the NBA, the refs, TNT, ESPN, ABC because stats don't say ****. The Rockets are a team with one of the worst FG% in the league, yet we are among the best etc.

However, this clearly singling out of Yao by the refs will definetly prevent us from having a shot at a Championship. Every win is therefore that more special because Yao is mistreated and the Rockets play 5 on 8 most of the times (almost all of the games vs. playoff / elite teams). If we ever win a championship with Yao it would be one of the most incredible achievements in basketball history, though it would never be as special as the 93-94 championship.

I feel sorry for Yao, because he's really one of the real humble, down to earth people ever to play in the NBA, just like Olajuwon. Yao trully deserves it and these racist a-holes will do everything to make sure he will never get any credit so no MVP, Defensive player of the Year nor championship)

Don't freaking go there man. Many real scientists and engineers have debunked the 9/11 conspiracy claims. If the claims were true, than any real scientist or engineer could prove it and become a national hero for all time. It's outlandish to think that the government would do that, for some ill-defined "gain" that doesn't exist and nobody can explain for real. Way too much risk just to pass the Patriot Act or go into Iraq.

The claims about Yao's bpg numbers being tracked incorrectly require nowhere near as much fantasy. The others working on this don't deserve to be linked to 9/11 conspiracies.

Let's keep this thread on topic.

This is the kind of stuff that our forum is perfect for! We could have twenty guys tracking blocks and put the data together and send it to the Rockets and the League office. I will definitely try to keep stats for Yao next game. How hard can it be? Come on: let's meet back here with data after the next game!
