Yao's going to get a max contract somewhere, regardless of whether or not Houston offers him one.

it's an insult to Yao. Yao plays the best basketball in the Center's position. Period. Don't even mention DW. Without the phantom 11 plus free show attempts Stern awarded him every night, DW wouln't even be mentioned together Yao.

I think Yao might take a lesser contract if the Rockets can show him they can win it all. Take less money so the Rocket can sign one more star? I wish.

    I'm liking it.

Honeymoon period is over. Rockets dont owe anything to Yao and Yao certainly doesn't owe anything to rockets. It's just unfortunate that Yao and Houston wasted their valuable time stuck with Mr. mediocrity T-mac.

Yao doesn't have another 10 years in him to lead to a title. He needs to make hay while he has the ability and the will. Rocket's need to impress with some trades or No doubt he is better off charting free agency. Garnett and Alllen changed teams and benefitted and so did Shaq. Rockets have some of the most fantastic fans in nba but if its not working for the both parties then we need to move on.

Its not a question about loyalty here. Yao will be discarded once his age is up, just the way Shaq was and many others before him. Head should rule his heart on this matter.

Yao has to in a team which can get him fair calls in the game. It is a joke to see he got only 5 or 6 free attempts (including tech.) and defender jumped onto his back like a monkey. You cannot build around him if he gets treated like a clown in the game. With that in mind, Houston has only two choices: get justice for Yao; or get an NBA favorite babies (like Wade or LBJ etc.) and use Yao as the second option. If none of these happen, Yao will leave for sure.

That's good. By the way, where did this loyalty stuff come from? there is no such a thing in NBA.

With the way most rockets fans treat yao, it would be great to see him and lebron in NY together. The east is just so much easier. Just see howard as an example of that.

anyone noticed on espn headlines there's an article "rumor:yao retire in 2010?", I'm no insider so can't read the article, just curious what those fool writers want to say.

typical bspn. they're really good in taking things out of context and making something out of nothing.

I'm glad you brought this up, I just saw it.

It's ridiculous. ESPN took everything out of context and focused on the "I will retire". It's clear from the original article that Yao was just tossing out a little joke, a weary comment considering this type of season he's gone through.

Naturally ESPN trims off all the nuance and makes it look like he actually might retire. That gets suckers (like me) to get ESPN Insider I guess: "Hey! The link says Yao might retire! Where's my credit card? I gotta get ESPN Insider! And with my subscription I get ESPN the magazine, which is long on pictures and short on words, just like I like it---I can finish each article during my average toilet sit-down!"

I didn't even realize he could opt out in 2010. HoopsHype doesn't show that.

Wow ... so we could potentially free up a lot of money that summer. That really looks like a make or break offseason for our future. From a basketball standpoint, is Yao a max player 2 years from now? I'm kind of doubting it. I hope the team makes the right basketball decision, rather than focusing on the business side.

ESPN Insider! is basically worthless for me, now that Hollinger's chats, stats, and player profiles are available for free.

Yao was joking around when they asked him some other stuff and still in joking mode they asked about FA and he said he'd retire. So he actually said it but was in the midst of a long joke.
