Don't think you guys have ever boxed. If you have you'll realized how fast and hard they hit. Yao would have no chance.

I agree, and this was my initial thought, and then I started second guessing myself with Yao's size.
Glad you didn't let me continue on my downward spiral!:)

a prime time 5"11 sugar ray robinson would have dropped chamberlin too. basketball players deciding to join boxing and beat an elite fighter isn't going to happen. just like putting a non-basketball tall 7' athlete in basketball doesn't mean he will dominate in the paint.

I have boxed. Which is how I know reach, distance, timing, etc. are all important.

And if the guy you are fighting is big enough to stick his arm out and put his hand on your forehead and you can swing around like a little kid and hit nothing but air, then you are going to have a tough time getting in and out without getting clinched.

Not really because height and size make a difference. Within the sports it can be apples to oranges. Shaq vs the best point guard and Shaq will win. Tyson vs pacquiao and we all know who wins. That's why they have weight divisions. There is an assumption that Yao has never had formal fight training. Look at Kareem, he was trained by Bruce and he might be able to whip pacquiao ass. No such a thing dumb question. A question might giving you away as being ignorant but there are no dumb questions. This question brings up an interesting discussion of skill vs physical stature. What's wrong with that? If your not interested, move on and shut up.

Put a 7' tall athlete on the basketball court against 5 good players of Manny Pacquiao's size, and I bet he does dominate.

Only true if they were both good boxers. One of the best boxers in history vs a non-boxer? He'll get around it in a split second.

Very doubtful. Have you seen some of those "freak show" MMA fights in Japan?

The very skilled trained smaller fighter cannot use his boxing to defeat a larger fighter.

They always have to get the fight to the ground and try to land a submission.

And they have a very difficult time doing it. Not because the huge guy is very skilled... but because of his size alone.

If Pacquiao was an MMA champion, I'd say he could win. But a boxing champion who is clueless when he isn't on two feet and doesn't have the space to punch?

Very unlikely he'd be able to get inside to land punches without Yao simple throwing him to the ground.

And once Manny is on the ground, all his boxing accomplishments mean squat.

Lol do you guys seriously think Yao would win, or are you just messing around? If Yao fought some random 5'7 guy off the street, then obviously he would destroy him, but Manny P?? The man who some say has the hardest punch in the world?? Yeahhhh.....not buying it. Manny would obliterate Yao with gut punches until he folded. The thought of that upsets me though, since Yao is such a great guy. If it was a drinking contest, I'd take Yao by a mile.

let me explain yao vs pacman...Manny is the first and only eight-division world champion, in which he has won ten world titles. You guys that think Yao has any chance at this age let alone any age have to stick with basketball. lol
