go to the NBA section on the ESPN.com website, and look for it... Great interview even though, the guy talks to Yao like he is a r****d...I love the way he answers all the questions smoothly...he talks about Boki being his buddy on the team, and how he is tired of the MEDIA...check it out...Peace
He sounded a lot better and more open during that post-game (?) interview earlier in the season when we played Golden State (?). He seemed to speak much better there than during this interview. Maybe he was nervous... maybe tired... oh well, who cares. He'll learn to deal with interviews as the years go by. Go Rockets. Go Ming.
I think he was just nervous since he seemed to be mumbling at times. But he still did great...he already interviews better than Robert Horry
Yao knows more English than he let's on. Even though I know the reporters are trying to be courteous in speaking slow to Yao, they ask questions as if Yao is a complete moron. I bet after the press conferences, Yao and Colin secretly snicker at what a bunch of lame brains these reporters are. All except Lisa Ling, of National Geographic, of course!
I don't really blame the reporter. When you're trying to understand a new language, it's often easier if the speaker speaks slowly. It's like taking Spanish for 2 years and thinking you know enough to talk and then hearing a spanish-speaking person just kick it about 100 mph. You're like "damn, slow down!"
yao plays too much video games, he should spend more time to practise!! btw, did rox draft boki to play video games with yao??
Speaking of video games, I wonder who Yao picks as his team and player of choice? Within this segment, that would be my follow up question to him. I'm also sure most everybody visiting these boards has seen the commercials for Electronic Arts NBA LIVE (with Allen Iverson waving the fans on). How fun would it be to play digital "Yao" in the next iteration of that game? Gotta love technology! theSAGE
Actually, he and Boki play "Medal of Honor" http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47544 "Nachbar and Yao have developed an addiction to Xbox video games, particularly the shoot-'em-up war game Medal of Honor. The two play against each other during nights on the road and individually on airline flights. And if they have their way, they'll be playing together on flights as well. " Maybe he does play NBA live but he better adjust those player attributes cuz they didn't make him nearly as good as he should be.
Yao is getting a basketball video game in the somewhat near future. I will keep this BBS posted when I get more info.
Do I sense negativity from this troll? You treat Ming as he's suppose to play basketball 24/7 and no life. Hmm...maybe treating him like a communist?!? Are you a Rockets fan or a Jazzhole fan, beckham?
He was joking. Lighten up. I thought the interviewer was being nice...I'm pretty sure that in about a year, Yao Ming will be much more fluent than he is right now.
The POOR guy has not been to anywhere else except his home, the arena, the highway and these airports!!! In a way, he has not really lived in the US really!

It was nice to see him do an English interview. However, he is not Charles Barkely!!! Kevin Frazer of ESPN delivered the questions slow and deliberate. I think Yao did a pretty good job considering he was probably nervous. I wonder if there is a reporter that Yao is more familar with which he could have done the interview. It might have been smoother.
Nice interview. Question for our Chinese-speaking friends: Many of the Romance languages, in respect to English, tend to have inverted sentence structure. For example: Bob's house in English may be constructed as the house of Bob in, say, French. Are the Chinese-dialects similar in respect to English?
