    Yes. Yao knows the business, he'll understand. If he retires, he'll retire as a Rocket in spirit, and if he returns, he'll be a free agent and we'll welcome him back at a reasonable price.

    That said, don't do it just to do it. Do it if adding a longer-term contract at that salary is WORTH IT.

    Isn't an expiring worth less now because of the pending lockout, new CBA etc?
