A thought I had about this: in general kids growing up in China don't drink as much milk /get as much calcium as kids in the west do (lactose intolerance, all that jazz). I'm not saying yao is lactose intolerant and refuses to ingest anything containing calcium, but it's a possible factor to consider when it comes to bone strength.
i think it hurt him playing in the olympics this summer. thats just a lot of wear and tear on his body.
Definitely Yao is a talent to play basketball. The problem is how to use him I was pissed off that RA promised he would reduce Yao's playing time after his last injury. However he played Yao with avg 40 mins to start 3 games this season until the management intervened RA did not learn what happened to yao last season and ate his own words, so sad YAO is special, you should treat it as a special (it's like a elephant on the court while he brings big market) otherwise you are dumb, RA, do you hear me?
These are just excuses....the blame does not go on anybody. Yao Ming is just injury prone...just like all big men his size. It's normal. History has shown us that this is the norm for big men. Yao plays hard and gives it all every time he is on the court, but IMO thats not a reason to keep a player. I'm sure there are hundreds of kids who dream about being in the NBA that would give their all every second they are on the court, it doesn't mean we should go sign them. It's time for Adelman to finally get a mobile center so we can start seeing his true offense. I have seen his offense in flashes and its just BEAUTIFUL....I'm ready to let Yao go and start believing in Adelman to take this team to the championship.
If basketball is the only consideration, the Rockets should seriously reconsider giving him a max deal in 2010. To me, that's not a good basketball decision. But we know its not the only consideration, and the Rockets are committed to building this team around Yao. So, the next priority needs to be constructing a team that doesn't require him to play big minutes any more. Only one other NBA player 7'4 or taller has averaged even 32 mpg in an NBA season, and that was Ralph Sampson who's career fizzled out after a handful of seasons. This point forward, the Rockets need to plan on Yao being no more than 30 mpg player.
We knew we had a injury prone center yet we never have a backup center that can play quality minutes.

RA is so mean to Yao He pretended to be a blind to not see Yao's injury in last game and he usually didn't even rest Yao in the garbage time in regular season.. In return Yao played so hard to the last second of the game3...The injury could be worse... To be honest, I feel released for Yao when I heard this news...
Yeah, we could blame it on the coach, team, and league. Or, we could say it's because he's a 7-foot-6 athlete who is constantly running, leaping, and in general beating the hell out of his legs, in a sport that historically chews up and spits out the legs and feet of guys that big in a few years. Your pick.
1. Past interviews has said that Yao's practice time has been limited. That helps tremendously. 2. Playing 40 minutes is EXPECTED for a franchise player during the playoffs. Can't believe we are complaining. If there is a time to risk injury, it is during the playoffs. Now to the OP... ****ty offense begins with Yao's unability to seal his freaking man off. If he could do just that, then you'll see what you want. Yao getting all the touches we need. Officiating is always inconsistent. Move on. Nothing we can't do about it.
I don't know where you've been, but how many NBA backup centers can throw up a 10-15-4 block double-double when called on to start out of the blue? I know he's retired now, but there was nothing wrong with Mutombo as a backup.
seriously, yao has done much to the organization, but he is 30 and injury-prone. it is rebuilding time.
Are you sure the Rockets should continue building the team around Yao? How do we know limiting him to 30 mins/game will stop late-season foot injuries? I don't think we do.
It's the playoffs and you've got to have your best player out there. I don't know what else Adelman could've done to make that possible. You cannot have a max contract guy who is only able to play such limited minutes. If Yao's going play 30 minutes or even less, he'd have to take a massive cut in his next contract, so that the Rockets could bring in another top center/PF. And I doubt that happens.
Or it could be that he is 7'6" and over 300 lbs playing a game that wreaks havoc on the joints and bones of everyone who plays it.
