How are they going to fit Yao's style better? Are they going to politely ask the other team to stop shoving him around like a rag doll? Are they going to stand around and pat him on the back when he gets stripped in the lane and flails his arms around like a ballerina? Are they going to give him super bionic rebounding hands that allow him to hold on to the ball rather than tip it away? Let me know when you figure it out.
Thanks Sam....but don't forget the bringing the ball down low so that other teams guards can strip it easily, or getting beat down court and losing out of good position, or not fighting for position down low and using his biggest advantage...his height. Yao plays ball like a panzy. DD
I freakin' HATE threads like these. These are worse than Real GM trade threads. a. This is not 2006. b. No one knows the future so stop pretending you do. c. This is a Rockets forum. If you want to talk about what team Yao will eventually play for, start your own Yao Ming forum and go talk about it to your heart's content. Annoying.
Totally agree. In addition, I can't disagree with Lanqiu1 more. Basketball is a team sport. If the team losses, no player wins, even Yao. Yao still has a long way to go to prove himself. Hopefully, the team gets better while yao gets better, and yao gets better while the team gets better. Don't even try to blame the guards for the problem. If Yao cannot get the guards to pass him the ball, it is also Yao's problem, i.e., less agressive and lack of leadership. There are not many teams that would extend a max offer to a non-leader (Allen Houston is the only one I can think right now, and Knicks GM got fired).
Yao is a high-post player. He has skills but lacks physical strength. He will be benefited a lot by playing with a strong PF with some offensive skills ( just like Nene, Brand, Antonio Davis), a.k.a. CATO with OFFENSE. JVG is not stupid. He brings Cato into the starting lineup with a purpose. He need physical strength on the court to protect Yao. Every player has his strength and weakness. A good team is the one assembling a roster to cover the weakness and let the strength shine. Yao is soft. Nobody can changed it. But this team does nothing to help him with the weakest starting forwards in the entire league.
OK, when I think PF with some offensive skills, Nene and Antonio Davis are not the first things that come to mind; rather Tim Duncan, Chris Webber, Jermaine O'Neal, Dirk Nowizitzki, Kevin Garnett, but anyway that's beside the point Second, How is adding another offensive post player suited to Yao's style? He's never played with another dominant post player before...why would he flourish now? I'm going to venture a guess and say that you didn't follow the Rockets back in 1997-99. During that time, the Rockets had two domnant post players in Olajuwon and Barkley. You know what happens when you have two big men on offense? One backs in while the other stands around. Yao's even less likely to get the ball then. Yao shouldn't need to have another player to protect him. If he is going to be a superstar in this league based on his play rather than his celebrity, he needs to be able to do it himself. If he can't then, he won't be. Yao's development, at this point, is squarely on Yao. Just like it's up to Steve to stop turning the ball over and make better decisions, it's on Yao to turn into the player he should be.
I don't think the Rockets will let Yao go simply because of his economic impact on the franchise. But if we're restricting this discussion to on court performance we all may very well be saying the same thing the starter of this thread was stating in 2 or 3 years if Yao continues to play unaggressively under the basket. A lot of you people are too quick to criticize. None of you know how the Yao experiment is going to turn out in the end at this early stage of his career.
I agree.. I think Yao is still an unknown in terms of how he will progress and what kind of player he will become. He is going through growth pains now but better now that later. I hope as develops as a player he will carry this team onto his back and into the championship. When this will happen is still unknown but for me to envision Yao leaving the Rox to position himself for better endorsements and such would make me lose respect for him. Im pretty sure that is not his personality.. I think Yao would stay in Houston for Francis just like Cat declined more money to stay here with his buddy. I look to the future and see through my magic peephole 4 Championships.. SF becomes a superstar PG averaging 18 ppg w/ 10 apg. While Yao develops into a dominant Center avg. 24 ppg/ 14rebs/ 4 blocks. Cat is the perfect compliment 3 point threat while providing solid defense.. I see so much talent on this team and im excited to see what they can do with it. I admit I get frustrated with the Rox play, poor passing, bad decison making, etc. etc.. Yao is not without either... Its a team and for bad games everyone has to share the blame.. Ive noticed better / more ball movement lately (ok so the shots havent been falling but they had good looks).. League leading Def. , Development of Yao, Cato, MoT. To me the pieces are not falling into place but molding to fit the vision JVG has for them. The NBA is a game of adaptation.. Lets be patience and see how this team plays itself out.. We still have plenty of games left and things are starting to look up.. J Go Yao! Go Rox! Go Super Duper Backup Bench Brigade!
You think Tim Duncan sells more shoes than T-Mac? Winning doesn't sell shoes. Attitude, image, advertising and design sell shoes. You think LeBron's ad handlers are upset he won't be winning the finals in the next decade?
Yao is the man. Damn Yao is cool Yao is freaking tall Yao looks cool in those Chinese National Team Rockets jersey Is that the tall Chinese guy that plays basketball? I want him on my team, I guess I will start **** about him coming to my team. I am just insanely jealous that we didn't get Yao in the draft. We had to settle for Mike Dunleavy, or we had to settle for Nickoloz Tskitishvili.
Yup Yao leaving houston will be the best thing for him when the time comes. It doesn't matter about the money cause we already know Yao isn't about money. If he was he would have taken the Nike contract over reebok and would have sued Coke for more. Yao was just unlikely to be drafted into the worst situation possible. Any other team would have been better for him. Too bad chicago didn't win the lottery that year or the knicks.
Is this something that is being discussed? Can't the owners see what that scenario has done to baseball?
I don't think yao will leave, but who knows with the rockets front office, every bad thing that could go wrong usually does, the other thing is the hatred towards new people on this web site, i've been visiting this website for years, eventhough i just became a poster a few months ago, some of us probably seem to be new, but that's not the case, some of us actually have lives and don't have time to post 10000000 posts on a website, some of us just want to read what other people have to say and most of the time, the people who post thousands of posts have very interesting things to say, and very smart too, but there are allways the few that think they are better because they post a lot, maybe that's not allways true, but enough about that, i think yao will stay, hopefully.
