Well this sucks. i was hoping that after yao said he needed to improve his game in the off-season like "Amare did" that he would take it upon himself to get better. Thats going to be hard to accomplish if he is in China training with the CNT. This sucks. :(

Man I really hope Yao won't be fatigued all year because of his constant playing. This non-stop bball w/out rest could shorten his career as well. :(

He is only flying back for shooting a commercial and won't practice with his teammates until after the surgery. Your report is not correct.

Also CD has issued a 2-3 week recovery plan for Yao after his surgery. The earliest that Yao will join the CNT is at the end of June.

Yao needs to encounter a couple of "setbacks" during his recovery, which then require a new surgery.

Sina says he will join the team for a bit this time for maybe a couple of days. At any rate, Yao is keeping himself busy and looks like improving his game in the US is not his poriority. I would be pretty embrassed with the way we lost game 7 if I were him.

    Look at it this way:

How many more games will Yao play over the summer compared to how many more games Amare will play for the Suns if they make it to the finals. Is it really THAT many more games? How many games to they play in those tourneys?

I've been frustrated with Yao's lack of progress and disappearance in the playoffs as most of us have been: I was so happy to read the article about him staying in the US I've been telling everyone "Man, he's going to come back ON FIRE next year: 20-10-5-2....This is going to be the breakout year..." Olajuwon said Fonde is where he really learned his game & I was excited about Yao being able to play relaxed, but competetive basketball in an environment where he can learn. Like the poster above noted Game 7 (and really, the ENTIRE SERIES after Gms. 1 and 2) was a joke; a horrible, horrible joke. I don't question Yao's desire to improve, but I doubt that the CBA cares and Yao, apparently, understands loyalty, but doesn't understand employer loyalty. The Rockets deserve better. As a fan I am disappointed and doubt that Yao's numbers will ever improve beyond where they are now, sadly. I hope I'm wrong, but I could give a damn about all the extra exposure the Rox get now because of Yao: I want wins & playoff success & I don't see that being possible with a player that hasn't been involved with the Rockets a complete off-season yet and, to read between the lines, however little Yao has to do this off-season for the CBA, it will only increase every year a little bit more until the 2008 Olympics. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see how competing against sub-playground skilled basketball players in an environment with little basketball tradition is going to help Yao be the bast he can be.....

I dont care the fact that Yao has to join CNT for a couple of month. what I am concerned is that when Yao would be able to improve his game over the summer and have a nice rest before that. It's the same all over again as last year. Remember how disappointing Yao was the beginning of this season compared with the end of last season.

I understand why everyone discusses the fatigue, but I really think there's another factor. I can't think of any player over 7'2" who has had more than a handful of truly effective years in the NBA. Something about carrying a frame that size for 82 games is just too damaging. I really worry for Yao that, besides fatigue during the year, that all this Chinese national team stuff is going to greatly shorten his NBA career.

We keep talking about what he can become, but what if his career is over in three years time? I hope I'm very wrong. Poor dude.

Nonsense, I for one am glad that a few bureaucrats and hangers on will be able to provide that much more to their families after exacting their annual pound of Yao each summer, so what if he has to fly coach and run useless practices and r****d his development and break down his body in order to beat up on Iran for an Asian games title that China could win without him? It's the only way. It's like Pai Mei & Uma from Kill Bill volume 2. He has to keep smashing his hand into the oak board in case he gets buried alive some day.
