Man, I really feel bad for Yao. A big part of me admires the fact that he is a man of his word, and keeps his promises. And yet another part of me wants him to rest not just because it might be beneficial to the Rockets, but because I genuinly feel sorry for Yao and feel like he has been taken advantage of by people who don't necessarily care much about what he wants.

I wish he would get what he wants in this case, not what the Rockets or the CNT wants.

I second that emotion. Hopefully it still won't be as bad as prior offseasons and he won't have to fulfill as many commitments as before. I really hope he gets some much needed rest this time.

That would be more than fine, as long as he is in China to "rest" not just physically, but also mentally, and not be there to fulfill his "obligations" to some meaningless games that won't do China any good.

Let's face it. China is not going to win games anytime soon. They have to realize that their team will get better if they let their talent play internationally. The team will not necessarily get better by making everybody play for the national team year round. Let the players be the best they can be and stop using ancient principles i.e. you have to show patritism by playing every game

That's what I thought. From the AP report it didnt seem that Yao would stay in US for the entire summer, and however the title reads Yao would not go back to China.

I think whether he is in Houston or China during the summer is totally overblown. It is the most normal thing in the world that he goes back to China during the summer.

Exactly. No offense, but it is downright silly to demand that he stay in the USA, and to think that that would somehow make him a much better player than he already is seems somewhat silly as well.

I don't object to him spending the entire summer in China if he wishes.

I just wish he wouldn't have to play in a bunch of meaningless games over there and wish he could have as much time as he wants to chill out and do nothing if thats what he feels like.

I think he's going to play for National team on July 19th, since they have a tournament.

Am I the only one who finds it interesting that threads, more often than not, are rated on "good news / bad news," as opposed to whether the topic is useful, informative, interesting, or provocative?

    This is the perfect example:
The "Yao stays in Houston" thread gets 4 stars.
The "Yao will go back to China" thread gets 2 stars.

In terms of the type of information shared, these threads are idenctical. But one gives us news that we want to hear, one gives us news that we don't want to hear.

It's not really the fault of the thread, though, just the actual facts.

    Sorry, off topic...

I admire Yao's patriotism and sense of duty to his country (I wish more American players had that). But, I also wish the authorities would recognize that, if they continue to over-tax him in the summers, he will struggle to improve as a player. He may also suffer from burnout and injuries at an early age.

He's at a point now, I think, that they could proceed without him for most activities and call him back to play in World Championships and Olympics only.

Certainly he should be free to go home and be with family and friends during the offseason, but he should also have the opportunity to train and improve his game for everyone's benefit (CNT included for the aforementioned WC and Olympics).

Maybe he should give up his friends and family for The Houston Rockets.

Yao'll go back and play this summer.
there're 3 tournaments he might play.
    1. a FIBA tournament in Beijing (likely)
    2. Chinese national games basketball event representing ShangHai. (probably)
    3. Asian Championsiop (qualifier for 06 world champs)in Sep. (definitely)

so it's another busy summer for Yao.

I'm watch Sun/Mav game. If Yao waste another summer like he is doing, no matter how much a die-hard rockets fan we are, we have to admit Sun gets a much much much better deal with Amare.

Of course he should go visit his friends....

We all know it's just a coincidence that all his friends happen to play on the local team and they need a center for their upcoming tourney...
