    To clarify, Yao was the first #1 overall pick selected directly from a foriegn country, without any previous experience in playing basketball in the united states (either high school or college).

    Hakeem,Ewing and Duncan all played college ball in the states.

    I think Yao Ming answered that question already, just call him Yao Ming.

    I think Mr. Yao is fine. But it sounds like you are talking to a stranger that you happen to know the last name.

    Man, am I the only one that was really annoyed about the female host that ran over and was like "WOW, OH MY GOD! LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THESE HANDS PEOPLE?! WHERE DO YOU SHOP FOR CLOTHES AT!?" Jeez, don't you think he's heard that a million times before?

    I think he was too just from looking at his body language. He should have knocked her over and had his way with her.

    j/k

    from the article..

    "My last name, Yao, doesn’t mean anything in itself. It’s just a last name, like Jones. But the two characters that are used to write it, when looked at separately, do mean something. The first character means “woman.” The second character means many, many, many — like a billion, only more. So that means more than Wilt Chamberlain, right?"

    hahahahaha.

    Does that translate into "big Yao"? I'm asking because I thought that I'd learned on a trip to China that "Da" was what you said when you wanted to supersize your McMeal at McDonalds.

    Yes, that's correct!

    Da = Big
    Xiao = Small

    I was definitely thinking that too ... he seemed very annoyed. I almost felt embarassed for the girl. It's like she was making him out to be a zoo spectacle or something. I'm sure that is not something Yao appreciates.

    Ric was with Yao the whole time and he didn't get a chance to say anything? Thats what happen when a guy that tall is standing to someone much shorter than him, all the attetion shift to Yao unfotunately.

    Is their a link to see a clip of it?
