Players of the Week: March 1-7
    Odom, Yao Earn Weekly Honors
NEW YORK, March 8 -- The Miami Heat's Lamar Odom and Houston Rockets' Yao Ming were named the Eastern Conference and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, March 1 through Sunday, March 7.

Odom led the Heat to a 2-1 record this week, averaging 23.0 points, 13.3 rebounds and 7.7 assists per game. His 30-point, 19-rebound, 11-assist triple-double against Sacramento marked just the third 30-15-10 game in the NBA since 1989 and only the fourth triple-double in Heat history.

Yao led the Rockets to a 2-1 record during the week, recording wins over Minnesota and Dallas. Yao, leading the Rockets in points and rebounds in all three contests, led the Western Conference with 29.7 points per game for the week and reached 25 points in three consecutive games for the first time in his career.

Here is a closer look at the week for Odom and Yao:

    Lamar Odom, Miami Heat
    # March 2 vs. Toronto: Scored 23 points on 11-of-18 shooting and grabbed 14 rebounds in a 89-86 loss to the Raptors.
    # March 4 vs. Milwaukee: Tallied 16 points, nine assists and seven rebounds as the Heat defeated the Bucks 104-98.
    # March 6 vs. Sacramento: Recorded a season-high 30 points, career-high 19 rebounds and tied a career-high 11 assists in a 102-96 win over Sacramento.

    Yao Ming, Houston Rockets
    # March 3 vs. L.A. Lakers: Scored a game-high 33 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a 96-93 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
    # March 5 @ Minnesota: Recorded 27 points, six rebounds and four assists in a 112-109 win over the Timberwolves.
    # March 7 vs. Dallas: Had a game-high 29 points on 13-of-19 shooting and ten rebounds in a 101-98 win over the Mavericks.

Other nominees for Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were Boston's Mark Blount, Detroit's Rasheed Wallace, Indiana's Jermaine O'Neal, Los Angeles Lakers' Shaquille O'Neal, Minnesota's Kevin Garnett, New York's Stephon Marbury, Philadelphia's Kenny Thomas, Phoenix's Amaré Stoudemire and Washington's Gilbert Arenas.

If only he woulda laid off the drugs... he'd be JUST as special as KG. His image is tarnished, for now.

Yao, however, is doing GREAT. Congrats Yao!

    Congrats Yao.

I was shocked to see that Rasho Nesterovic didn't even get mentioned this week, he was doing quite well for a 3-0 Spurs team.

Hey, i'm happy that Yao got it though.

    Yao Jega!

It brought tears to my eyes when I read that... :D

Seriously, Yao has come a long way since his first NBA game when he stepped onto the court as a confused rookie player. Way to go Yao. Keep it up.

    Wow, that's pretty sweet.

I agree with you'll about Odom, that dude looks exactly like KG, only missing the intangibles and heart.

Wow, should be Yao's first PoW?! Really impressive. Still regret we should have beaten Lakers last Wednesday. I wish it won't be long before he can get the Player of Month. GO, Yao and Rockets.:)

Yao shot 57% from the field going 35 for 56 (just okay) and 100% from the free throw line going 19-19 (awesome).

    Congrats Yao.

Odom's and Shaq's stats were quite impressive, no doubt about that. However, if you throw in the quality of opponents, Yao wins hands down.

Throw in 63% field goal percentage and 100% FT percentage, the argument goes more favoring Yao.

    Congratulation to Yao!

Where is Juggie? I know he visit the forum, because he post in another thread proping a Yao/LJ trade.

He is just hiding in the dark corner waiting for the next chance to bash Yao.
