Don't worry about Yao's stats for this meaningless game. I mean Yao is definitly only trying 60%. Have you people forgotten about couple of years ago how he did at the World Basketball Champ? He's and the team and Harris are trying to see where they going from game to game. This is ridiculous because some of us know he could easily get 30 points in 20mins against these guys.
BTW, this isn't a bunch of scrubs. At this point, if the Mavs summer league PG was a Rocket, he'd start for us next year. Devin Harris is the #5 pick, terriffic player. Josh Howard started last year for the Mavs. Not an easy game. Definitely betetr than just a summer league team.
Yeah, same here too. Dallas radio stations were advertising this game being on NBA TV and I don't know what happened. Oh well...
I know this was discussed a long time ago in this thread, but in Asian cultures, your age is +1 from what we would say. So based on an '87 birthday, we would say that he's 16, but he would say he's 17. If everything works out, the Rockets won't be picking in the top 5 for a long, long time, though.
Are people still doing that. I remember the custom of adding 1 to your age, but I didn't think that was still in practice anymore. Nobody in my family adds an extra year to their birthday. And the real reason behind people questioning Yi's age is because there are rumors that the Chinese government is pretending he is younger in order to play in more "Junior" tournaments. It's kind of the same problem that Cuban baseball players have sometimes.
Wait are you serious? My DirecTIVO schedule showed the game at 9 AM PST (or 12 EST) today, so I have it programed to record for me... Did they lie to us again!?
Lot of people don't do that anymore, but what most people do is they subtract the year they born from the current year, so that even Yi has not reach 17 yet, he can claim he is 17. That's normal in China. (Becoz based on custom, you grow up 1 year after the spring festival)
DirecTV online guide (California) shows that the game will be replayed on Saturday 7:00Am - 9:00AM, PST.
It is pretty well-known that Yi's published age is fishy. The author of the article on Time that initially made him famous also casted serious doubt. Also as we found out a couple young stars in the same program where Yi is from recently changed their previously stated ages, increasing 1 or 2 years. Here is that part of the Time article, http://www.time.com/time/covers/1101030908/xyi.html
