We can achieve that by starting Colin Pine as the new PG. Lue would be a nice back up.

Some secret source once said once Colin Pine takes off the glasses and steps on the court, his athleticism supasses that of Vince Carter and his court vision reminds people of JohnStockton.

In a 3 on 3 drail, Pine, Yao and JJ burned SF, Cat and Cato like the Yellowstone, and that ultimately resulted in the big trade.

    Hey Killerjoe1,

Where were you seating? I was in 3rd row from the floor next to the rim facing the score table. China was on offense on this end of the floor in the 2nd half. The chinese group was on this end of the court with the 2 China flags.

BTW. Can't beat these seats for $10 bucks. Yes, it's only a expo game but you can see the sweat. Too bad it would cost hundreds for the same type of seats in the Toyota Center.

As for pictures and videos, got some but the lighting was too low for digital pictures to turn out right but I got some video in mov. format.

My 2 cents on the CNT. It's not likely to take any metals in the 2004 games. Yao was good, not great. The Mavs kept fouling him. Man, everyone that guards him was fouling him to push him away from the rim. They know it's all over if he gets it that close.

The Yi Jinling (sp) kid (16) is not bad at all, he didn't seem like he was 7ft., partly because he played next to Yao. But he is very quick and can move. Didn't look like he has a great outside shot but he has a couple of moves to the basket. In a couple of years, he might be a lottery pick. He can't be worst than any of the other High School players picked this year on potential alone. If he gets the right coaching, he can be a top 5 pick.

Back to my Yao watch, he was dragging a little but that's expected since he is not in mid-year NBA shape. He doesn't look fat and he is looking stronger. (PS. I only saw him fall down once). Getting there:)

Someone asked about the Russia pick for the Mavs. He dunked once on Yao and make a 10ft shot. Got lots of fouls quickly guarding Yao, expected.

One more point. CNT needs better guards, they really do, even the scrubs on the Mavs summer league team looks better then them. Sad.

yeah that's what keep saying... if moochie norris were Chinese they would be top 5. if steve nash were chinese they'd be top 3. why aren't there any good guards?

If Steve Francis were Chinese they'd be in the bottom 10.

Yao scores 22 in China's win

National team hangs tough against Mavs' summer league team

11:36 PM CDT on Thursday, July 1, 2004

By DAMON L. SAYLES / The Dallas Morning News

FORT WORTH – Del Harris watched his Chinese National team fight for rebounds, hit the floor on intense charges and take accidental shots to the face. It was a physical style of play where the team wasn't expected to hold an advantage.

But when the buzzer sounded, the Chinese team had beaten a team Harris knows plenty about.

China left TCU's Daniel-Meyer Coliseum with an 85-80 victory against the Mavericks' summer-league team in exhibition play Thursday night. The Chinese did the dirty work to earn it.

They grabbed rebounds, eight more than the Mavericks. They made free throws down the stretch, six of seven in the final 1:09 and 24 of 30 for the game.

More importantly, they fought back from a five-point deficit in the fourth quarter.

"I'm proud of the way my guys fought through what I thought was a tough night," Harris said. "They kept their cool and played with heart. People say the Chinese are not tough, not physical. I think they proved them wrong tonight."

Yao Ming led China with 22 points and 11 rebounds, despite playing with a nagging left toe injury. He declined comment while walking gingerly out of the locker room.

"Yao's toes are not good," Harris said. "We're going to catch him up with a doctor [Friday], but for now, he's in a lot of pain. I know he's tough and can play with pain. Hopefully, he'll be all right."

The Mavericks shot 46 percent from the field but made only 10 of 18 free throws. Rookie Devin Harris led with 15 points, and Josh Howard and Rod Gregoire added 12 each.

Mavs assistant says Harris 'raw but talented'
Mavericks assistant coach Charlie Parker liked what he saw of first-round pick Devin Harris, the heir apparent to the starting point guard position vacated by departing free agent Steve Nash.

"He brings maturity and tenacity to us," said Parker, who coached the summer-league team Thursday. "He is solid defensively, but offensively is where as a point guard he'll have to make his mark."

Harris finished with 15 points, three assists and two steals in 32 minutes, but he also had six turnovers. Parker expects the rookie to show more of what he can do while staying relaxed on the court.

"It's hard to tell after his first game. He's definitely raw, but he's talented," Parker said. "I really like what I saw from him."

Boddicker plays game before making NBA trips
Former Longhorn and Duncanville standout Brian Boddicker scored five points in 17 minutes for the Mavericks. It will be his only appearance in a Mavericks summer-league uniform this season.

Boddicker will travel to Detroit on Saturday to work out with the Pistons, then travel to Utah on July 15 for a workout with the Jazz. What mattered to him most was having the chance to play his first professional game in the summer league in front of familiar faces.

"It was a lot of fun. You've just got to play as hard as you can," Boddicker said. "You may not think you're playing well, but someone in the stands watching you might think otherwise."

Just got home but here is what I saw.

    Yao's line:

    Points - 22
    Field Goals - 6 of 9
    Free Throws - 10 of 13
    Rebounds - 14
    Blocks - 2
    Assists - 4
    Turn Overs - 4

Yao set the tone with the first play of the game when he posted up Paval and did an imatation Shaq on him by pushing him into the paint and dunking the ball on him. In the 1st quarter Yao had 9 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 fouls. He put Paval on the bench very quickly with a couple of fouls and Paval finished with no stats in the 1st half.

Yao Ming left the game after about 9 minutes and did not come back until there was only about 4 minutes left in the first half. He made a sweet block on Josh Howard that he did not get credit for bacause one of his teammates fouled on the play. In the 2nd quarter Yao Ming got 5 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist.

In the second Half Yao Ming and the rest of the Chinese team came out a little sluggish and they went down by 7 points in the 1st minute or so of the half due to stupid turnovers. Paval finally got on the board with a couple of fade away shots and then one dunk. However he quickly picked up two more fouls trying to defend Yao Ming and left the game. Yao had 3 points, 3 rebounds, 1 block and 2 turnovers in the 3rd.

In the fourth quarter Justin Brown...the same one from the Athletes in Action game started to come alive. He hit a couple a long rang jumpers on Yao Ming and also had a dunk. But Yao started to assert himself making a shot but really made some nice passes to set his teammates up for some easy baskets. Justin had to start fouling Yao Ming to keep him from scoring. For the 4th quarter Yao put up 5 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block (of Paval), 2 assists and 2 turnovers.

Yao was definitely more winded in the second half but he fought through it and still put up damn good numbers.

I don't know how they came up with only 11 rebounds? I kept track and made a mark every time Yao pulled one off of the boards and I ended up with 14 and was worried that I might have missed one. I am very confedent in saying that the 11 is a number that is too low.

Yi jianlian is not bad, only16 but 7ft. and quick with good B-ball IQ. Has a slasher mentality now because he can move and get to the rim. Don't know if his shot is any good since he didn't take many shots.

I suspect he will be very good in a couple of years. Likely a Lottery pick in 2 years. That's if he contines to improve and get experience on the National Team. Will he be even better than Yao? Wouldn't know. But if he get's taller and bigger and keeps his quickness and display a decent outside shot, maybe. But that's alot of ifs for him. Meanwhile, Yao is ready and gettin' better all the time.

Now I know why Yao didn't really run hard in the game. His toes are hurt. Wow, he's playin' hurt. Hope they give him plenty of rest and get that toe looked at.

FYI, in case you don't know, he got stepped on in the previous game. I suspect it's not too serious, coz it is also to the Chinese's best interest not to risk him.

FYI, ;) Yi has a good shooting touch, which is almost standard for players from China. I saw he making a spot up and contested three in the recent Summit game.

But his problem is he started to play bball quite late, so his game isn't as polished and he has some catching-up to do. Yao and Wang Zhizhi are both from bball families.

Thats bullshiat right there. It's a damn exhibition game. Look whiteheaded russian commie cousin of the the Nelson brothers, this isn't the olympics, this isn't the last stand, this isn't rocky, it's an exhibition game, and we know Mark Cuban has called you and voiced his concerns about not overworking a injured Yao, because why wouldn't he...right?... but save the angelo dundee talk, and let a man in pain not play in an exhibition game.. in pain.
