It's no more pointless to compare a healthy Yao to DH than it is to compare players from different eras, and those threads pop up here all the time. Besides, Yao has had longer stretches without missing games than DH has hitting free throws at a 95% clip.
Actually comparing players from different eras make more sense than comparing DH to the OP's Yao Ming. At least those players were real, this "never injured" Yao Ming the OP was refering to doesn't exist except in the minds of YOFs.
Yao kills Dwight because of his size and ability to defend Howard's very basic back to the basket moves. However, Dwight is better against the remaining league vs. Yao, due to Dwights athletic ability. If we are fortunate enough to make it to the finals against Orlando in the near future. I see Yao giving Dwight more fits, because Dwight's low post offense is tailored made for Yao's defensive effort. Yes Dwight would get some slams, however, Yao's fundamentals are significantly better.
Dwight has certainly had a healthier career, and is more athletic. But when Yao and Dwight match up head to head, Yao always owns him.
Yea you're right, getting injured in the playoffs means nothing. Kind of like staying awake studying for weeks in advance and falling asleep during the test. So much benefit
I see the Howard-Yao comparison as similar to the Olajuwon-Ewing matchup from the '90s. But, we've got the Ewing this time around. Good, sound, hard-working, and can win you a lot of basketball games, but not quite the dynamo that Dream and Howard are.
Given that the playoffs are not over yet, I don't consider this year to be done. So I stand by my comment. This year Yao played 0/82 games, last year he played 77/82 games.
The question was, who is the better player. That could mean who would you want for a winner take all game, or who would you want for a best of seven, or who would you want for a season/career.
Exactly what I was going to say...you can compare this or that but head to head, Yao has ALWAYS kicked Dwight's butt...and who would you rather have at the end of a game?? Yao (86% Ft) or Dwight (59% Ft)? I think I will take someone who is money at the line over someone who cant hit a lick more than 5 feet from the basket.
