Deke would have no chance since Yao could drain 18ft jumpers. Deke's a good paint defender, but god help him if he has to move outside of it.

I'm sure Deke's helped Yao with his post offensive though. Only way your getting by Deke is going up strong.

Dream and Shaq in their primes would destroy Yao.

The soft Shanghai men image has been around for a long time. Here's an article on it: http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/citylife/2006-07/24/content_647664.htm

On the other hand, Shanghai men are known to be quite intellectual. I have Shanghai blood in me, and I have no problem with that.

Let's move the shanghai vs. other cities in china argument somewhere else.......

for my vote I say deke wins because he would get really into it while Yao would not want to hurt deke's feelings.

yao crushes him, plain and simple. the deke of the past may have stood a chance but yao is just too dominant now.

If officiated fairly Shaq would foul out before Yao.

I sense another Northern China-Southern China schoolyard brawl coming on.

It's funny that the Northern Chinese men always diss the Southern Chinese men for being short and skinny (most of the 7-foot basketball players are from the North as far as I know). But then the Southern Chinese men often diss the Northern Chinese men for being soft and 'yes-men' to their wives.

Read the whole thread before you post. I was just playing along. There were like 10 people who has talked about this topic before I added on it. Thanks for the compliment that my short comment was enough to ruin this thread though. I never thought what I wrote could be that influential.

What's the reason? Shaq would get his scores, but right now Yao's shot is not easy to defend. If Yao avoid fouls and just get his share of score, it dont warrent a destory.

I think he was more speaking of the entire stupid argument about how tall/sensitive chinese people are from different regions is to have in a thread about yao and dikemembe. it's that kind of side tracking that makes clutchfans threads impossible to read.

I dunno, if we are talking about Centers in their primes. Yao is near the bottom of the list. But centers right now he's at the top. Although Deke in his prime vs Yao in his prime would be interesting. Deke wont be able to block Yao's jumpshot. But Yao isn't Mr. 1 on 1 defense himself either.
