I think Yao and Amare are neck and neck at this point. Although, Yao has gained back ground of late. I think a lot of people picking Amare were saying that he's the reason the Suns are going to make the playoffs. Everyone seems to think the Rockets are going to bow out of the playoff race as LA is hot. Thus Phoenix makes the playoff and Amare is the difference. I think it's not much of a point because the Rockets might make the playoffs and perhaps the Suns won't. Everyone is saying LA is only 1/2 game behind the Rockets, watch out world. Yes the Lakers do look poised to pass the Rockets, but if the Rockets start playing consistent they COULD pass the Suns, Jazz, even maybe the T-Wolves. Only a few games seperate 5-8 and a 5 winning streak or 3 losing streak would be huge for any of those teams.
i wouldnt be surprised if both amauri and yao win rookie of the year, just like elton brand and fracis did.
This is the last time I am going to post on this thread because it has nothing to do with Yao-Amare anymore. But about the blocks, tops Per 48, 20 of the top 25 are centers including the top 9 until you get to Eddie Griffin at 10. They are in order Bradley, Foyle, Diop, Ratliff, Clark,Dampier, Ostertag,B. Wallace, Duncan, Griffin, Kiralinko, MIng, Robinson, Brand, Ilgauskus, Chandler, Shaq, Haywood, Gasol, Blount,J. O'neal, Olowakandi, Cato, K. Brown, Nestorav. And don't say Duncan is a pf, he plays in the middle of the zone on defense and guarded Shaq the whole game tonight. All of the others in this top 25 play center from time to time as well. So again, with 20 of the to 25 being pure Centers, tell me how Centers do not dominate in the block department. In the field goal percentage, I only used the ones over 50% which was 13. You are right only 8 of the top 13 are pure centers. There was two true small forwards and 2 pf/centers and one sf/pf/c. In order they are Shaq, Cato, P.J. Brown, La Frenz, Jefferson, MIng, Kirilenko, MIller, Harpring, Nesterovic, Gasol, Grant, Bradley. So again tell me how centers don't dominate this category as well.
This thread needs to be sticky since every 7 days people forget we have discussed this Yao-Amare thing to death. Recent case: Yao vs Amare USA Today.
It looks like some bad news of late for Stoudemire and his ROY quest. He didn't start last night against the Raptors for "violating an unspecified team rule." And Gugliotta is finally coming off the injured list and might take some of Amare's playing time. link to violation Googs back All the more reason for Yao for Roy!
